Burnaby, Canada Fun Rec Day Camp - NEBCA Full time

**Job description**

Support Leaders must have related experience working with children, proven leadership skills and an understanding of the stages of children’s development. Support Leaders should also some experience working with children/youth who have physical and/or mental disabilities. Standard First Aid skills or the willingness to train is mandatory.
- Pre-camp - meet with parents, support workers and caregivers of each camper in the Special Needs Program to gather information about the specific needs of the child.
- Communicate information gathered regarding special needs campers to Rec leaders.
- Work one-on-one to provide individualized support for campers in the Special Needs program.
- Work with Recreation Leaders to adapt and plan suitable activities to meet the specific needs of each individual child and to promote inclusion within the entire group.
- Work as a team with other Special Needs Leaders and Recreation Leaders.
- Undergo training in areas such as of behaviour management, Standard First Aid, conflict resolution, children with special needs, allergy response, etc.
- Assist in registration and promotion at Stoney Creek and other local schools.
- Attend a “Team Building Event” for all leaders.
- Help assemble supplies and maintain appropriate inventory.
- Supervise children in recreation activities, manage behaviours of children within the group, being flexible to individual needs and sensitive to individual requirements.
- Attend weekly pre
- and post-camp staff meetings with Liaison Officer and Project Manager.
- Evaluate the program in an ongoing weekly basis, and overall at the end of contract.

Fun Rec is a summer recreation program that has been offered to the children of this community since 1982. The Northeast Burnaby Community Association (NEBCA) has kept the cost of registration well below the cost of running this fun packed program so that everyone in our community has the chance to attend summer camp.

At Fun Rec, we aim to help develop social and physical skills in a fun and safe environment. Activities include but are not limited to sports, crafts, music, cooking, and drama. Children who attend must be between the ages 5 (having completed kindergarten) and 13 (having completed grade 7) years of age.

NEBCA hires qualified staff with years of experience working with children who are currently in a post-secondary institution. Many of our Recreational Leaders return summer after summer because the position is such a wonderfully fun and rewarding job As a Fun Rec Leader, you become an integral and key role model for the children in our community.

Contract length: 2 months

**Salary**: $17.00 per hour

We are taking many precautions to respond to COVID-19. Our program has been downsized to reduce exposure and increase the ability to socially distance. We are following the recommendations of the FHA and school district protocols.
