**Position Summary**

The PDS Technician acts as a technical expert for trouble shooting electrical problems on the LRT system, electrical distribution systems and various infrastructure equipment.

The PDS Tech provides coaching and guidance to other staff, to heighten their abilities to inspect, maintain, and repair equipment.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Perform maintenance testing activities on high and low voltage equipment involved on the LRT system and infrastructure;
- Install, test and commission new mechanical/electrical parts;
- Update system software and perform routine tests. Assist other working groups to ensure system operation;
- Respond to service requests and demand maintenance and perform or arrange routine and emergency service on facility equipment and systems as necessary;
- Develop and document inspection and maintenance routines and standard work procedures in a start-up environment;
- Perform work in accordance with established procedures and risk management practices to ensure safety and maximum levels of facility availability in accordance with the requirements of the project agreement;
- Record status of maintenance and repair work within a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
- Ensures work completed meets response time and quality requirements;
- Comply with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to: environmental, health and safety, risk management, and fire protection requirements;
- Operate equipment required for maintenance of the LRT system. This may include (but is not limited to) aerial work platforms, rail mounted inspection equipment and others. Execute Switching orders and grounding, as required;

**Health, Safety, Environmental and Security**
- A good understanding, maintaining awareness and following relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, Operation rule book, standard operation procedures, health, safety and environmental requirements and instructions within own role and organization
- Continuously monitor area of responsibility to ensure compliance with legislation and safety procedures. Overall responsibility of passengers, staff and goods to enable compliance with regulations through safe and effective rail operation.
- Maintaining an awareness and following emergency, accident/incident plan, policy and procedures.
- Constructively challenge unsafe practice at all levels and report through the necessary channels.
- Inform/alert the control centre to any hazards which have been spotted along the route.
- Understand the risk of ill health and the impact of wellbeing on the safety of an individual, others at work and the public. Understand strategies for fatigue management e.g., sleep quality, and stress management.
- Manage own fitness to enable work to be carried out competently in order to reduce the risk to health and safety to self and all stakeholders.
- Requirements and process for ensuring rail safety and security on the line, at stations and depots.
- Constantly maintain a secure environment and respond to security issues and take appropriate action in the event of a breach of a security as accordance with company safe operation procedures, policies and safe systems of work.

**Qualifications**
- Technical degree/certification as an electrician
- Minimum 4 years’ experience as an electrician
- High Voltage certification is highly recommended;
- Should have Class 3 drivers license;
- Good computer skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent logical and analytical reasoning ability, and capable of making complex decisions;
- Committed to teamwork, continuous improvement in the department processes and personnel;
- Consistent focus on quality and accuracy;
- Good judgement & effective in solving practical problems, responds quick, calmly and appropriately to emergency situations;
- Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently in an unsupervised environment;
- Demonstrate strong health, safety, quality, and environmental knowledge and mindset;
- Previous experience within rail transit or rail transportation industry considered an asset;
- Experience or certifications such as, Fall Arrest, working at heights, etc.
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and adapt to change;

**Job Conditions**
- Willing to work shifts in a 24/7 environment
- Provides on-call/standby duties and emergency call-outs as required
- Personal protective equipment is required to be worn as part of this
