TITLE: Conservation Technician

REPORTS TO: Conservation Manager and/or Conservation Coordinator

ADHERES TO THE: Stewardship, Land Acquisition, Conservation Easement, HR, Record Keeping, Advocacy, Fundraising and other applicable Nature Trust Policy Frameworks

Role Summary

The Conservation Technician works closely with the Conservation Manager and/or Conservation Coordinator to contribute to the acquisition of nature preserves, as well as Species at Risk, forest conservation, and other projects. They are engaged in tasks related to field work, research, data management, and landowner outreach and engagement. The Conservation Technician may supervise interns or students.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Plan and participate/lead field surveys and site assessments of potential conservation lands on private land;
- Compile, prepare, and manage field survey and landowner data;
- Prepare technical reports and reports for landowners (e.g. baseline, land acquisition, stewardship, etc.);
- Engage with private landowners and assist with recruitment and mobilization of individuals in the Landowner Stewardship Program;
- Conducts literature review and research, as required;
- Prepare site maps using GIS software, as required;
- Interact with project partners, and stakeholders to advance land conservation initiatives;
- Represent the Nature Trust at formal and informal events, and;
- Complete other associated tasks as assigned.

**Qualifications, Skills & Experience**

Currently enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary qualification program in Forestry, Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Conservation or related work experience;
Strong fieldwork skills and experience with environmental data collection and ecological land classification
Ability and willingness to work long hours, in all weather conditions, including overnight travel and weekends when necessary
Knowledge of Species at Risk in New Brunswick, knowledge of at-risk lichen species is an asset
Good working knowledge of New Brunswick’s natural environment with experience in flora and fauna identification
Experience using GPS, ArcGIS, MS Word, MS Excel
Excellent interpersonal skills, experience with public outreach is an asset
Hardworking, organized, adaptable, and able to work independently
Experience in a Non-Profit organization is an asset
Valid Driver’s license
Access to a vehicle to use for work is an asset
Wilderness First Aid Training is an asset
Bilingualism is an asset
**Working Environment**

The work is office-based with outdoor fieldwork required from April-October. The Conservation Technician must be willing to travel for field work, and may be required to work flexible hours, including overnight trips to remote areas of the province. Field work will require the Conservation Technician to be physically fit and willing to work in unfavorable conditions at times.
