Hey, thanks for your interest in becoming a Tapmaster here at Something in the Water We’re Canada’s New Brewery of the Year, bringing curious beverages to all of Ontario from Toronto’s epic Liberty Village and Kingston’s vibrant Princess St.
We know what you’re thinking: “Downtown is expensive, this must be a few suits trying to make some quick bucks off my hard-working back.”
You’re right, it is expensive. But we never wear suits, nor do we hold cushy day jobs with a corner office. You’ll be working alongside us: Steve runs the operations, and Rick is in charge of product. You’ll find both of us there on brew day, packaging day, running the taps, sweeping the floors, and filling boxes full of cans to ship to the world.
On to the details: Our mission is to create and curate curious beverages. Everything we sell is both a little unexpected, but makes complete sense. Like our World Beer Award-winning Brunch Stout, made with the same ingredients you’d expect in a pancake breakfast. Our European-café-style taproom was designed the same way. Different than most taprooms you’ve visited: smaller, emphasis on finishes and décor, and with the energy of a café in Barcelona, not a beer hall in Munich. The Tapmaster manages the delicious delivery of our draft pours and is the centre of the customer experience - whether it’s sharing tasting notes of a sampler flight or discussing our Overboard food offerings and how they pair with each beer. We have table service and cashless experience in our café. The Tapmaster also manages the bottle shop and retail shelves in our taproom, and occasionally a local beer festival, restaurant sampling or Farmer’s Market.
**Responsibilities**
- Under the direction and management of the Location General Manager, execute all aspects of Front of House duties following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and employee handbook provided by the company *
- Following your weekly schedule, and managing your schedule in line with company protocol using 7 Shifts
- Opening the Taproom for business
- Training and keeping up to date with our beers, non alcoholic beverages, and cocktails
- Training and keeping up to date with our Overboard food program
- Understanding and operating within the four walls of the Taproom, staying organized and efficient
- Working within a TEAM
- Closing the Taproom
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience at all touch points in the taproom following SOPs
- Greet guests, direct guests, seat guests, 360 degrees of service
- Lead the Taps, engage over beer, know the beer, describer the beer, pour the beer, present the beer, help ENJOY the beer
- Manage beer Flights and Super Flights
- Manage cocktailsbe prepared to suggest our various alternatives to beer
- Manage cashless purchases from the bottle shop, curious retail, and merchandise
- Pair and sell food/snacks with beverages to enhance the guest Tap Room experience
- Answer questions, engage with our guests, and create a welcoming environment
- Help manage creative events in the café and community
- Create a clean and safe environment for guests
- Pre + Post shift: Daily cleaning duties (checklist) provided by GM
- During shifts: Clear/wipe tables and surfaces, cleaning up after guests, cleaning glassware
- Ensuring bathrooms are always clean and tidy
- Ensuring walk-in cooler is cleaned as/when messes occur, and organized for everyone to use safely and efficiently
- Ensuring the retail display, and bottle shop fridge is stocked and organized according to SOP
- Bring the Something in the Water Experience outside our four walls
- Be the Tapmaster at beer festivals
- Be the Tapmaster at Farmer’s Market
- Be a champion/ambassador of the Something in the Water brand, living and breathing our shared values of respect, accountability and merit
- Upon hiring, you will be provided well-documented SOPs and employee onboarding handbook to set you up for success_
**Qualifications**
- Highly passionate about craft beer and adult beverages
- Confident, engaging, and fun to spend 8-hour days with
- Great at talking with people and being a great listener
- Super motivated and keen to bring forward new ideas
- Calm under pressure
- Smart Serve certified
- Ability to move a 80lb full 30L keg
**Nice to have**:
- Valid driver’s licence & access to a vehicle is a plus
- Experience in hospitality
- Lives close to brewery
- Savvy with social (what’s TikTack?)
