- $22 / hour**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**

NWAC has been working to expand work in area of Culture, Youth and Sport and to advance Youth participation. With a high-volume of activities including on art procurement and NWAC's gallery space, NWAC's Library and Archives, the Youth Council, and planning for cultural events at our Social and Economic Innovation Centre, there is a need for support within the unit during summer months. Summer months are especially active with increased work to plan for National Indigenous Day (June 21st), NWAC's AGA (Summer 2023) and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) all taking place in close succession. This position will provide First Nations and Inuit youth with opportunities to engage in ongoing youth activities, specifically around the activities of NWAC's Youth Council, in addition to a wide range of activities within the Culture, Art, Youth and Sport Policy and Programs Unit.

The position will be offered to two First Nation or Inuit youth residing in the National Capital Region as activities will take place in a hybrid format with the ability to work from home and from our main office located at 120 Promenade du Portage.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Assist staff with duties related to monthly Youth Council meetings (strategic planning, assisting with drafting youth workplan for 23-24 fiscal, design 23-24 Save the Date poster, etc.).
- Assist Staff with planning youth session for the NWAC AGA, including planning and facilitation.
- Assist with NWAC events, including National Indigenous Day, as required. This may include activities including art procurement and design/arrangement of our rotating art gallery space.
- Develop virtual discussion groups and networking opportunities.
- Develop materials and host activities supporting Indigenous youth’s engagement on different projects and gender equality.
- Advocate for gender equality issues.
- Hold in person meetings bringing together indigenous youth advocates.
- Perform other related duties as required from time to time.

**ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS**

Eligible participants inclue:

- First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive.
- Ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Registered as full-time students during the preceding academic year and who intend to go to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

**REQUIRMENTS**

First Nations and Inuit youth will be considered for these opportunities.

**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**
- Experience and interest conducting outreach with NGO’s, interest groups or grassroot organizations.
- Experience or knowledge of hosting and developing webinars.
- Knowledge of using social media to collaborate with various groups and promoting activities on social media.
- Awareness of issues facing Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender diverse youth
