The **_Metrolinx Intern Program _**is designed to offer new graduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working on projects that guide us forward through our collaborative, inclusive work environment. Upon successful completion of the program, there is the opportunity to be offered a permanent placement.

Our Safety and System Assurance Office is looking for an intern to join their team to support identifying themes, trends, indicators and gaps in the areas of system safety assurance and safety risk management. They will also support the implementation of related processes across various projects and operations. This position will report into the Director Safety & System Assurance, Safety.

**What will I be doing?**
- Support developing tools, technology, and using data and judgement to improve quality and efficiency of safety regulatory and system assessment work processes.
- Support with conducting safety and system assurance assessments to determine compliance with Metrolinx safety standards, policies and procedures.
- Support with conducting risk assessments and analytics for various projects and changes within operations.
- Assist with reporting on safety culture, compliance to relevant standards, safety non-compliance measures, and other relevant reports suitable for public reporting.
- Assist with identifying and clearly defining assessment issues and root causes; assist with actions necessary to ensure compliance and improvement in safety and system assurance performance.
- Assist with the development of safety and system assurance standards in partnership with the team and management.

**What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?**
- Bachelor’s degree in System Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline completed in the last 2 years
- Knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements governing safety and system assurance.
- Ability to communicate with internal and external partners.
- Project management knowledge or skills are an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, & Access
- **You must be available in the Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area for a June 5th, 2023 start date **.
