Position Summary:
The purpose of the Youth Counsellor position is to deliver a range of services within the Halton Youth Attendance Centre in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and North Halton. The position is responsible for supporting youth, providing early intervention and prevention programming.
Job Accountabilities
Supervision/Counselling and Case Management
- Supervision of a caseload of at-risk youth who are in conflict with the law
- Liaise and collaborate with family members on a regular basis based on youth consent
- Provide monthly updates of client progress to Probation Officers and/or collateral contacts.
- To facilitate required programs for clients referred to the Attendance Centre, and counsel as required
- Maintain current knowledge on cognitive based programming
Documentation/Administrative
- Ensure case management practices, as outlined in Minimum Standards, are adhered to including all documentation to be completed and properly recorded
- Maintain client files in a timely and efficient manner including assessments, notes, reports, statistical information, etc.
- Follow all protocol/procedures as outlined in program manual(s)
- Compile and provide monthly statistical data to the agency
- Provide comprehensive reports to management as required
- Maintain a solid working relationship with all existing collateral agencies/organizations

- Maintain workplace confidentiality and work within the policies and procedures as outlined, while respecting the mission, vision and principles of the agency
- Conduct self with integrity and respect as it applies to the role as an employee representative of the agency
- Work in a spirit of congeniality with all staff
- Reliable judgment and maintenance of boundaries is required when dealing with clients and other service providers
- Maintain a current understanding of resources/services available in the community which could be of assistance to the clients
- Ability to comply with deadlines as directed by management
- Demonstrate effective time management
- Participate in team meetings and other committees as needed
- Participate in relevant training opportunities in order to keep skills and outlook current/effective
- Provide supervision to student placements and/or volunteers as requested by manager
- Represent the agency at community events, public speaking engagements, etc. at the direction of management
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care or a related field
- A minimum of 2 years case management experience including individual counselling, working with clients in the criminal justice system is preferred
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written and computer literacy
- A valid driver’s license with access to own vehicle required as this position will routinely work out of more than one location
- Knowledge of CFSA and YCJA
- A clear vulnerable sector CPIC will be required
