Fire Assay Assistant (FA1)

**Location**: ALS Geochemistry, North Vancouver

**Reports to**: Fire Assay Manager

**General Accountability**:
Independently conducts routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples, fusion, and cupellation.

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion;
- Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools;
- Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to;
- Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.

**Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Familiarity with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods;
- Strong analytical and mechanical skills;
- Organized and highly motivated individual;
- Detail-oriented individual;
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
- Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time-critical issues;
- Basic English communication skills
- Safety oriented.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Completion of High School Education required.
- Diploma or Degree in Science preferred.
- Laboratory experience in a production-oriented environment would be an asset..

Physical Demands
- Able to lift up to 50lbs;
- Able to work within a hot and dusty environment;
- Must be willing to comply with the following H&S requirements:

- Be clean-shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator);
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Shower before the end of each shift;
- Undergo a lead blood test required every six months;
- Able to stand for a full shift;
- Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
- Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work, including weekends.
