**The Opportunity**

The **Maintenance Helper** (General Labourer) performs basic support tasks to assist the maintenance department.

**Job Duties**
- Clean and maintain indoor and outdoor areas of building, such as restrooms, windows and grounds. These duties might include washing windows, yard clean-up, salting sidewalks and washroom cleanliness checks
- Clean and organize maintenance shop as directed
- Take apart old machines as directed
- Perform basic support tasks to assist Maintenance Associate in installing and repairing machines and equipment. Such as, gathering and handing tools, assist with changing fixtures and racks, preparing and cleaning work areas and equipment
- Empty recycling and garbage bins into compactors
- Plane and groove plastic sheets to size for production, with electric planer and router; including sanding down for reuse
- Clean and grease wheels on green carts and cardboard carts
- Remove stripped screws from buckles
- Clean glue and ink pails
- Remove sizes from hangers as required with Dremel
- Assist with unloading containers and sorting skids
- Move banker boxes from office to mezzanine
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Possess at a minimum a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Mechanical aptitude with previous maintenance assistance experiences an asset
- Able to obtain Forklift and Ariel Lift certifications
- Able to use electric hand tools
- Self-starter, able to work independently, with supervision
- Demonstrated ability to work with people and be a positive team member with good communication skills
- Multi-tasking is a necessary function of this position
- Well-organized, enthusiastic, and a positive team member
- Safety minded and willingness to learn new skills
- Able to perform the physical requirements of the job, lift up to 50lbs
- Able to work overtime with little or no advance notice (overtime requirement as per Collective Labour Agreement)

Custom Leather Canada Limited is the largest, and one of the oldest leather accessory and belt manufacturers in Canada. The company began producing consumer leather products in 1949 and has been in continuous operation since that time. We operate out of a 70,000 sq. foot state of the art manufacturing facility in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

The company wholesales goods under a number of product lines. Our main business involves the manufacture and import of Men's and Women's belts, which we ship to our customers throughout Canada and the United States. Our belts are sold under our own brands, our customers' private labels, as well as Buffalo David Bitton Silver Jeans Co, Vince Camuto, Totes, and other brands under license.

Our customers include all avenues of retail, including major department stores, specialty stores, as well as independent men's and ladies wear stores. We also manufacture and distribute a wide variety of small leather goods and accessories.
