BCIT’s **Campus Planning & Facilities** is seeking a** temporary, full-time (1.0 **FTE**) Pest Control Maintenance Worker.** This role is required to respond to work requests of pest related issues and inspect buildings and outside areas for evidence of pest activity. Collaborates with Pest Management contractors to identify pest issues, perform pest related clean ups and pest removals, and install pest proofing. Assists trades staff on repairs of buildings as required. Reports pest activity to BCIT stakeholders.**Duties & Responsibilities**

**DUTIES** **AND**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Responds to work requests of pest related issues. Assesses the incident, delivers service and provides follow-through with BCIT stakeholders to ensure services are completed in a timely manner.
- Performs room/building and outside areas inspections for evidence of pest activity at regular intervals.
- Collaborates with Pest Management contractors to identify pest issues. Generates documentation and reports pest activity to BCIT stakeholders and Pest Management contractor. Refers unusual or complex issues and situations to the management.
- Inspects pest control devices laid by Pest Management contractor for pest activity, provides pest removals and documents occurrences for BCIT stakeholders and Pest Management contractor.
- Sets and removes rodent traps and performs other preventative activities as required, complying with safety procedures and WorkSafe BC regulations.
- Implements pest proofing to include, but not limited to, installation of door sweeps, plugging holes and pest ingress points with consent from BCIT stakeholders.
- Submits electronical work requests to Pest Management contractors, cleaning contractor, Facilities trades staff in a timely manner. Tracks the work requests to ensure the services are completed in a timely manner.
- Coordinates site inspection visits with the Pest Management contractors to ensure the pests have been eliminated and the treatments are completed.
- Assists trades persons and other facilities staff in carrying out planned and emergency maintenance and repair of any impacted areas and buildings as required.
- Works with Pest Management contractors to prepare pest prevention education materials and keeps current on industry trends, best practices, and safety regulations related to pest control.
- Communicates effectively with BCIT clients to address their concerns and provide exceptional customer service.
- Works with BCIT contractors to include pest management, custodial and food services.
- Works with BCIT skilled Trades staff to include carpenters. Performs other duties as required.
- Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
- Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.

**Qualifications**

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Definition**:The qualifications section for this position was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications.

**Education**:

- Completion of Grade 12, plus training programs of up to one year in Integrated Pest Management, Facilities Services, and/or related fields.

**Experience**:

- Requires two years’ general experience plus up to six months’ practical current experience on a similar or related job.
- Must be familiar and comfortable with operating gas, battery and electric powered vehicles.

**License(s)/Certifications(s)**:

- Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with a 12-month clean drivers’ abstract.
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM) - Province of BC
- Must have successfully completed WHMIS program within six months of employment.
- WorkSafe BC and WHMIS guidelines as related to job duties.

- Knowledge of and/or experience with automated work order systems.

**Communication/Interpersonal Skills**:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

**Administrative Skills**:

- Must be able to prioritize daily duties to ensure work requests are completed in a timely manner.

**Other Skills/Abilities**:

- Physically fit, comfortable bending for extended periods, working on ladders, proficient with home building hand tools.
