**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

As a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Department, the Advisor for the Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (MSIP) Program provides leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of this program. Specifically, the Advisor will be responsible for the implementation of the MSIP Peer Resource / Coach program, providing coaching and mentoring managers and front line staff. The Advisor works collaboratively as part of the Prevention Team to promote a culture that ensures high standards of safety and compliance with WorkSafeBC Regulations and Strategies.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field or three (3) years related experience.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Demonstrated knowledge in musculoskeletal injury prevention and Safe Patient Handling
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate in both individual and large group settings
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WorkSafeBC regulation with respect to Ergonomics
- Demonstrated ability to work under time constraints, with multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to interact with others effectively, often in highly charged emotional states
- Superior investigative, analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop, facilitate and evaluate MSI Prevention programming
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidences of personal employee health files and matters
- Demonstrated ability to demonstrate Coaching mentoring skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently using own initiative and to make decisions guided by standards of practice, WorkSafeBC regulation and Authority policies and procedures
- Demonstrated effective organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload effectively
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
- Physical ability to carry out the position
- Use of a personal vehicle to travel between multiple sites
