Simulation Technician

**Simulation Technician**:
**Primary Purpose**:
To assist with the implementation of programs and initiatives in the BJ Hughes Centre for Clinical Learning (HCCL) and provide support for the day-to-day operations and learning activities within the Centre and WCVM 1st -3rd year academic lab program delivery. May require alternate hours or shift work.

**Nature of Work**:
**Accountabilities**
- Providing support for the 1st to 3rd year academic labs and working collaboratively with the HCCL Manager and other technicians to deliver HCCL programs
- Providing support for the Veterinary Medical Centre Registered Veterinary Technologist skill development programs
- Assisting with the creation and teaching of effective lab materials and exercises
- Simulation model development and construction
- Assisting with materials, models and medical techniques based on best practices to ensure students are able to grasp concepts and utilize information correctly
- Meeting lab needs in collaboration with the HCCL Manager and guided by the DVM program curriculum, including providing instruction and compiling course material for undergraduate clinical skills courses
- Will participate In student labs in terms of organization/collection of supplies, set up, assistance and clean up
- Ensuring laboratories are prepared and equipment/facility is fully functional and maintained
- Maintaining inventory and animal booking for HCCL lab delivery
- Maintaining WCVM colony animal records and a teaching cadaver inventory.
- During summer months will be required to do lab area annual maintenance and planning for upcoming academic year.

**Qualifications**
**Education**: Completion of a Veterinary or Animal Health Technology Diploma. Completion of the ASSET Foundations course or Simulation Education Training (SET) is required. Registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists (SAVT) and Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association (SVMA) is required.

**Experience**: Three to five years’ experience as a Registered Veterinary Technologist with multiple specifies in a wide range of clinical settings and experience in teaching veterinary students. Experience in the development and delivery of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations, and knowledge of techniques for the fabrication of simulation task trainers is required. Experience in the use 3D printers/scanners including model development through to the completion of print. Experience in the use of IT for video capture, in particular KB Port, is preferred.Experience in the care, maintenance and use of Syndaver simulations dogs would be considered a strong asset.

**Skills**: Effective interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated good judgement and integrity. Ability to prioritize work, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in both an independent and team environment are a requirement for this position.

**Salary**: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $28.72 - 37.60 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
