Fun Rec is a summer recreation program that has been offered to the children of this community since 1982. The Northeast Burnaby Community Association (NEBCA) has kept the cost of registration well below the cost of running this fun packed program so that everyone in our community has the chance to attend summer camp.

At Fun Rec, we aim to help develop social and physical skills in a fun and safe environment. Activities include but are not limited to sports, crafts, music, cooking, and drama. Children who attend must be between the ages 5 (having completed kindergarten) and 13 (having completed grade 7) years of age.

NEBCA hires qualified staff with years of experience working with children who are currently in a post-secondary institution. Many of our Recreational Leaders return summer after summer because the position is such a wonderfully fun and rewarding job As a Fun Rec Leader, you become an integral and key role model for the children in our community.

**Job description**

Recreation Leaders must have related experience working with children, proven leadership skills and an understanding of the stages of child development. Standard First Aid skills or the willingness to train is mandatory.

A recreation leader must:

- Work as a team to plan and implement a 6-week program for approximately groups of 5-10 children per week.
- Plan age-appropriate activities, incorporating ideas from a variety of areas such as crafts, circle time, out-trips, cooking, story time, sports, quiet activities, scavenger hunts, songs, games, adventures, etc.
- Undergo training in areas such as of behaviour management, Standard First Aid, conflict resolution, special needs children, allergy response, etc.
- Assist in registration and promotion at Stoney Creek and other local schools.
- Assist with the volunteer generation, including school visits as required.
- Attend a “Team Building Event” for all leaders.
- Help assemble supplies and maintain appropriate inventory.
- Supervise children in recreation activities, manage the behaviours of children within the group, being flexible to individual needs and sensitive to individual requirements.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Evaluate the program in an ongoing weekly basis.

**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 2.5 months

**Salary**: From $21.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
