**Your Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Supervisor or Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to collections and/or specimen processing, quality management, troubleshooting, and general support. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will be responsible for the entire process of effective, efficient and safe collection of specimens - from greeting the patient through to preparation of specimens for transportation. Positive patient identification and accurate specimen handling are essential to the job. Recognizes and assesses unusual or abnormal findings. Escalates problems, issues, and occurrences as required and documents appropriately. Performs administrative duties such as filing, faxing, reports distribution, and archiving when required. Documents and participates in the training and orientation of students and staff. Monitors, orders, rotates, distributes and stores supplies as applicable. Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is currently seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to perform patient facing tasks in a fast paced, highly team focused hospital Outpatient Laboratory. The Special Services Outpatient Lab services a variety of FMC Clinic patients mainly those from AHS Cancer Care and Research. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday - 0730-1615 hours.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Competency in phlebotomy with experience performing difficult venipunctures. Proficiency in data entry and comfortable working in a fast paced, high volume environment. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Ability to maintain strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality. Intermediate competency in Microsoft office. LIS experience (Millennium and/or Epic). Phlebotomy and data entry experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity within the last year

**Preferred Qualifications**:
National certification with CSMLS. WHMIS 2015 certification. Outpatient collection experience within the past six months. Experience working with immunocompromised patients. Demonstrates initiative, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Experience interpreting workflow visuals and ability to respond appropriately to meet patient wait times. Ability to lead self through change.
