**This position reports to the Parks Supervisor, Construction and Technical Services.**

**Responsibilities**:

- Performs routine maintenance procedures on existing park and cemetery facilities, and installation of new development projects, i.e. playgrounds, spray pads, steps, bridges, backstops, benches, signage, interlocking stone;
- Provides direction to other members of the work crew, while working with the crew in the accomplishment of assigned programs, including carpentry, plumbing, low voltage electrical repairs, painting, fencing, graffiti removal, playgrounds, and building repairs;
- Performs and records 3rd. party inspections and monthly playground safety inspections and daily splash pad inspections seasonally in accordance with CSA Guidelines and assisted by the Utility II position;
- Repairs minor and major playground components, welding of metal structures and other components and routine maintenance procedures on existing Parks and Open Space, assisting in new development projects, i.e. installation and maintenance of fences, spray pads, steps, bridges, backstops, benches, signage, interlocking stone work;
- Maintains necessary records for monthly and yearly inspection of facilities and structures;
- Develops and implements SOP's for equipment operating procedures;
- Keeps supervisor informed of all ongoing activity, major breakdown, vandalism and deterioration of Town facilities and Properties; making suggestions for changes in work methods and/or equipment utilization which will increase efficiency;
- Ensures that equipment resources (Back-hoe, vehicles, tractors, attachments hand and power tools) are used by the work crew in the most efficient manner and that equipment is serviced and maintained in good order;
- Perform daily circle checks on equipment, making any necessary minor repairs in the prescribed manner, and scheduling any major repairs with the Supervisor. Inspection and/or completion of traffic safety plans as required;
- May be required to work shift, i.e. weekends and/or nights or in other departments for short periods i.e. winter control and/or emergencies;
- Performs other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum Grade 12 education or acceptable equivalent in education and experience;
- Playground Practitioner or Inspector, welding and chainsaw certificates.
- 2-3 years previous related experience in landscape construction including maintenance of fences, playground apparatus, splash pad maintenance and other facilities in addition to a willingness to upgrade skills;
- 1-2 years’ experience in the operation of equipment such as tractors, skid steer loaders, backhoes, front-end loaders etc. and attachments;
- Must possess mechanical aptitude, an understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Demonstrated effective communication, both oral and written, customer service and problem solving skills;
- Proficient time management skills and flexibility in adjusting between a variety of duties
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and as part of a team;
- Computer proficiency in Word and excel with GIS knowledge;
- Must hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver's Licence Class DZ minimum (standard and automatic transmission) with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour. Note: Applicants with 6 or more points are ineligible for consideration. The successful applicant, who is a new hire, will be required to provide the Corporation with a current drivers abstract (no older than 30 days) and pass a Town administered road test as a condition of employment.
- Must be willing to work a 40-hour workweek in varying weather conditions and be available for shift work as required.
