Emergency Management & Climate Readiness (EMCR) is the lead coordinating agency in the provincial government for all emergency management activities. EMCR works directly with local governments, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, other jurisdictions, industry and volunteers in mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

The Provincial Response Specialist provides 24/7 operational leadership and decision-making during the response phase of BC emergencies and disasters. The Specialist is responsible for providing situational awareness to EMCR senior leadership staff and other senior officials of government. Has primary responsibility for issuing BC emergency alerts in the event of imminent threats to British Columbia, and fills key emergency management response positions in the EMCR Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre, including operations, planning, logistics, finance and command staff roles.

**Job Requirements**:
Education and Experience
- A graduate degree in emergency management or a related field plus two (2) years related experience* OR;
- An undergraduate degree in emergency management or a related field plus three (3) years related experience* OR;
- A diploma or certificate in emergency management or a related field plus four (4) years related experience* OR;
- An equivalent combination of related experience* and education may be considered.
- Related experience must include the following
- Emergency management preparedness, response, recovery or mitigation experience.

Preference may be given to applicants who have any of the following:

- Minimum two (2) years of experience conducting emergency management response operations.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience leading emergency management response operations.
- Experience making operational decisions in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
- Experience working in a provincial level emergency operations centre or similar command and control environment.
- Work 24/7 shifts on a rotating basis as and when required, including holidays, weekends, early mornings, evenings and nights to maintain EMCR operational requirements.
- Work overtime and/or be placed on standby with limited notice year-round, including on holidays, weekends, early mornings, evenings and nights.
- Be flexible regarding changes in responsibilities, assignments, shift patterns and corporate structures.
- Work at an EMCR office or remotely as needed to maintain EMCR operational requirements.
- Travel throughout the province and, during emergency events, be deployed for up to 14 days to emergency operations centres, including the EMCR Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) and Provincial Regional Emergency Operations Centres (PREOCs). Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence (or equivalent).**About this Position**:

This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2025. This opportunity may be extended or become permanent.
