EIPS is recruiting a permanent full-time Architectural Technologist with our Facility Services department.

Facility Services is located at the EIPS Central Administration building in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the division, Central administration is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students, and Information Technologies.

FUNCTION AND PURPOSE

This is a technical planning position that involves the collection, analysis, and reporting of technical information. The Architectural Technician will primarily be responsible for the collection of data and the maintenance of processes to ensure the accuracy of the Division’s floor plans. They will be responsible for recording instructional spaces, utilization data, and spatial data related to the Division’s building and land assets.

Other duties include utilization monitoring, inventorying and reporting of facility space, space inventory management, capturing facility condition data, as well as preparing presentation materials to be used in meetings with central departments, schools and the community. This position will also liaise with outside agencies including other school jurisdictions, government officials and municipal partners.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the Division’s facility floor plans and other architectural drawings for all 42 schools.

Design and implement department standards around floor plans and small-scale drawings.

Update and maintain accurate area records of interior rooms and facility gross areas.

Develop department standards around school-initiated requests including project scope development and implementation plans.

Lead the incorporation of school building floor plans with other spatial data related to EIPS land assets and planned sites.

Collaborate with administration, schools and external organizations as required to ensure comprehensive data collection.

Collaborate with consultants to ensure drawings meet Division standards.

Carry out concept drawings in support of internal projects in collaboration with Project Managers.

Conduct annual reporting to Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure on Division-wide utilization, gross area and tenant lease calculations.

Support Facility Services in developing various strategic planning documents including the Three-Year Capital Plan, Ten-Year Facilities Plan, Three to Five Year Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) plan and other documents as they arise.

Respond to requests for information from schools and central departments including Finance, OH&S and Information Technologies.

Communicate effectively by developing written reports and presentation materials.

Conduct studies, fit tests, and concept designs in support of space planning.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

High school + 2-year post-secondary diploma (Architectural Technician or Architectural Technologist - preferred).

1-3 years of experience with AutoCAD Software is required.

Experience with Building Information Management systems and space planning.

Ability to interpret civil, structural, electrical and mechanical drawings.

Well-versed and experienced in Microsoft Office specifically Microsoft Excel.

Knowledge of the Alberta Building Code is considered an asset.

Alberta school board experience is an asset.

Experience in GIS (ESRI and QGIS) is considered an asset.
