The Traffic Signal Operations section designs, operates and maintains traffic signals, traffic cameras, message signs and other technology to move traffic efficiently throughout the City. This position supports the delivery of the annual traffic signal capital construction and maintenance programs. This includes traffic signal design including programming and testing of traffic signal controllers, troubleshooting and testing equipment, monitoring traffic control systems, field checks and commissioning of new traffic control devices as well as quality assurance, records management and coordinating projects and field inspections.. Your strong technical design and programming skills combined with ability to work on several tasks simultaneously to take projects from concept to completion within tight timelines will be your key to success in this position
- Create designs, manage and operate Traffic Control and Transportation Management Equipment within the City of Edmonton
- Design, create and prepare control equipment timing/configuration/programming sheets and databases that comply with functional design requirements including testing of the program
- Monitor/maintain operation of Transportation Management Systems including troubleshooting equipment or operational issues with traffic control devices and systems
- Quality assurance / peer review of others work
- Data and records management including operational logs, inventory / asset tracking, project documentation and recording of as-built documentation
- Provide written and verbal responses to public and legal inquiries
- Perform field checks and collect field data
- Coordinate, direct and inspect the work of contractors including: identifying and marking locations of new signal equipment and infrastructure, monitor construction progress, resolve unforeseen issues, ensure installations are in accordance with plans and standards, collect field measurements and notes for as-built recording, commission and inspect installations
- Manage projects & assist in the execution of the Transportation Operations Capital and Operating Traffic Signal and ITS Programs
- Complete administrative activities required to issue projects for the annual signals programs for construction
- Communicate with a variety of groups regarding signal projects including internal staff, external stakeholders such as contractors, consultants, developers, surveyors and other utility groups
- Ensure work performed is in accordance to the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001
- Perform other duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completed 2 Year Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Computer, Transportation, Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent from a recognized institute
- Eligible for registration with ASET as a CET
- Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in traffic engineering field including traffic signal operation
- Knowledge of the technical and engineering principles and practices related to traffic signals and other traffic control devices including construction terminology and techniques
- Proficient in Google Apps
- Demonstrated ability to monitor, troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve both hardware and software related issues that arise in a traffic control and signal environment
- Knowledge of traffic signals guidelines and specifications as outlined by TAC, ITE, NEMA and IMSA is required
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to work in a team environment and outside in all traffic and weather conditions
- Valid Alberta class 5 driver's licence with eligibility to obtain & maintain a City Driver's Permit is a requirement
