Site: Toronto General Hospital
Department: Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC)
Reports to: Senior Director Professional Practice, Collaborative Academic Practice & Clinical Director PMCC
Hours: 37.5 Hours/Week
**Salary**: $89,915 to 112,398 annually commensurate on experience and consistent with UHN policy)
Status: Permanent Full-Time
Through an innovative partnership with Collaborative Academic Practice (CAP) and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC) portfolios, University Health Network is seeking to recruit a temporary full time Project Manager to support our innovative PMCC nursing mentorship pilot initiative.
The University Health Network, where “above all else the needs of patients come first”, encompasses Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and the Michener Institute of Education at UHN. UHN focuses on creating and maintaining a workplace of choice, where our people are recognized and valued.
The PMCC includes the Divisions of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery & Vascular Surgery and consists of over 1,100 health care professionals. This interprofessional team supports over 163,000 out patient visits per year along with 10,000 inpatients per year who have cardiac and vascular procedures. Our inpatient PMCC units consist of 23 Cardiovascular ICU beds; 14 Coronary ICUs beds; 36 cardiology inpatient beds; 28 cardiac surgery inpatient beds; and 12 vascular surgery beds.
As an important member of the CAP and PMCC portfolios, this inaugural role will coordinate the implementation of a PMCC Nursing Mentorship program within the context of UHN’s broader Nursing Strategy launching May 2023.
:
The Project Manager will jointly report to the Senior Director of Professional Practice CAP and Clinical Director PMCC and will be responsible for leading the implementation of the PMCC mentorship program. We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to work alongside the leadership team in cultivating a co-designed learner-centered nursing engagement approach.
The goal of the mentorship program is to attract and retain nurses within PMCC through investing in our commitment in offering professional development and growth. PMCC hopes to shift the collective mindset from the crisis care required through the COVID-19 pandemic and nursing shortage to a more sustainable model that embeds continuous learning in the workplace and among local teams.
For novice nurses, the mentorship program aims to link experienced nurse mentors with early career nurses to offer knowledge and insights of clinical experience, share wisdom and intellectual capital. Mentors will provide dedicated “at the elbow” support, supporting early career nurses to ask questions in real-time and seek advice and feedback as they gain knowledge and skills. Mid-career nurses will be able to take on short-term internships as mentees that allow them to explore additional clinical, education, or quality improvement competencies. As mentors, late-career nurses will develop leadership and mentorship skills and feel engaged and valued as they share their clinical expertise and knowledge.
