**Position Overview**

**Student Wellness Services** within **Student and Enrolment Services** is currently seeking a Part-time Limited Term **Immunization Program Coordinator **for approximately 11 months.

This position reports to the Manager, Nursing, Student Wellness Services (SWS), within the portfolio of Student Enrolment Services. The medical clinic within SWS provides various medical and nursing services to students, staff and faculty of the University of Calgary and the Campus Community. Medical services provided through SWS includes but is not limited to family physician care (booked appointments for students and walk in services for the campus community), specialized physician services, immunization consultation for health science students and medical mental health support.

The Immunization Coordinator works closely with the Manger, Nursing, physicians and other nursing staff to provide immunization consultations, vaccine administration and follow-up for University of Calgary students in health science programs. The person in this position is responsible for ensuring students are provided with vaccinations required by their programs and acts as the liaison between health science faculties and students. This position also coordinates other student immunization programs such as rabies vaccine administration for Veterinary Medicine students, the campus mass influenza clinic and assists with travel vaccinations.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Provides one on one consultation with U of C students to determine their vaccination and blood titre requirements for their individual health science programs
- Administers immunizations
- Consults with clinic physicians to obtain immunization and laboratory testing orders for each student
- Provides immunization records and lab requisitions to the students
- Books the student follow-up appointments for booster vaccines
- Provides appropriate teaching and instructions to students relating to their program requirements and vaccinations
- Ensures that patient charts are up to date and accurate and provides students with required program documentation
- Keeps up to date with Public Health Immunization Program requirements and disseminates changes to the health services team
- Assists in the ordering of vaccines and vaccine related supplies
- Monitors the vaccine fridge(s) and ensures strict adherence to vaccine cold chain requirements are maintained
- Assists and coordinates with campus stakeholders in the provision of immunization clinics
- Assists with the day-to-day operations of the clinic.
- Assists physicians as required including: assisting with minor procedures; updating electronic charts; triaging patients, taking patients to examination rooms, instructing patients for prepping and booking tests.
- In conjunction with the other nursing staff, manages the medical inventory of drugs including: ensuring the safe transfer of drugs, appropriate disposal of controlled drugs, checking for expiry dates; stocking rooms appropriately.
- Completes patient follow-up calls from physicians relaying information and answering patient questions.
- Assists in the collection, labeling and processing of laboratory samples.
- Triages patients appropriately, prioritizing urgent or emergent patients and seeks immediate physician assistance in emergencies.
- Performs nursing duties appropriate to the Registered Nurse role and according to guidelines set out by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, membership in CARNA as a Registered Nurse required
- Knowledge of Public Health Guidelines for adult immunizations and immunization experience required
- Strong written and oral communication skills required
- Experience working in a medical clinic preferred
- Excellent computer skills, experience in computerized medical software programs
- Strong critical thinking skills and resourcefulness to solve problems, multi-task and prioritize
- Current CPR certification
- Knowledgeable in the treatment of anaphylaxis
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- A strong team player who works well within a multi-disciplinary team
