**Civil Inspector II (FTT - 12 months)**

Annual salary: $ 70,800.00 - 76,300.00
**Position Highlights**
To provide construction administration, site review, quality assurance, record keeping and documentation of the
construction and installation of non-routine non-standard technically complex civil work to confirm general compliance with
project contracts, BC Hydro Distribution Standards, design documents, specifications and quality requirements as well as
compliance with safety and other provincial and municipal regulations for civil construction. Performs all of the duties of the
Civil Inspector 1 position.
**What you'll do**
1. Reviews construction design documents and specifications for non-routine non-standard technically complex civil work,
develops a thorough understanding of the civil construction requirements, identifies potential problems with projects, and
provides technical guidance for non-routine technically complex civil work to project managers, engineers or designers prior
to construction. Assists the Project Manager, Engineer or Designer with tender evaluations, contract negotiations and
awards by performing duties such as reviewing tenders for completeness of scope, suitability of requirements, applicability
of civil design for site specific conditions, and technical constraints.
2. Reviews routine and non-routine standard and non-standard civil designs in various stages of planning to implementation
for internally and externally designed civil projects. Provides technical solutions on civil construction issues; may develop
solution in consultation with Civil Engineers and Technologists.
3. Negotiates and approves extra work in consultation with Civil Inspector Work Leader and Project Lead.
4. Operates a variety of survey equipment to layout and/or review duct bank profiles, manhole grades and locations; and for
route selection, locating new and existing plant and staking and locating pole and anchors.
5. Assists the Civil Inspector Work Leader with delivering and receiving externally contracted inspection and survey work,
by performing duties such as: evaluating the work requirements, time frame, location and complexity of the work; and by
coordinating and providing information to local and regional inspection and survey work clients such as Distribution
Engineering and Design.
6. Provides guidance and information to BC Hydro staff involved in design and claims matters related to civil assets.
Investigates complaints regarding alleged encroachment on private property by BC Hydro services.
7. Provides leadership in civil construction inspection to enhance continuous improvement throughout projects and within
BC Hydro.
8. Provides constructive feedback to Civil Inspector Work Leader relating to site applicability of standards and project
- specific design documents (for continuous improvement).
9. Provides technical advice and guidance to incumbents in the Civil Inspector 1 job. Performs all of the duties of the Civil
Inspector 1 job.
10. Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
**What you bring**
- All the knowledge, skills and abilities of the Civil Inspector 1 job.
- Good working knowledge of civil construction management, methods and techniques.
- Good working knowledge of WorkSafe BC and Occupational Health and Safety regulations, municipal regulations, BC
Hydro Distribution Standards and Class of Work specifications.
- Working knowledge of relevant design codes, standards and guidelines such as: Master Municipal Construction
Documents, CAN/CSA standards and BC Ministry of Transportation Construction Standards.
- Working knowledge of concrete testing and evaluation of test results.
- Working knowledge of the operation and equipment of a distribution system.
- Working knowledge of Underground Electrical ES53 standards as well as electrical fundamentals.
- Good working knowledge of Underground Civil ES54 standards.
- Knowledge of survey methods and techniques.
- Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on a variety of survey instruments.
