Position Description
The objective of the Project Manager position is to translate business objectives into a clear project vision, and align owner team around the vision. The position will facilitate cross functional teams, and align around project objectives. The job will develop an execution plan and proceed against that plan on a project specific. The Project Manager will develop project performance goals (budget, schedule, scope) and manage projects against those goals.
Key Accountabilities
This position will interact closely with operations, EH&S, and logistics
Health & Safety
- Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
**Project Management**:
- Define project scope and deliverables that support business goals
- Establish project performance goals (budget, schedule, and operability requirements) and monitor to ensure compliance against those goals
- Identify risks and mitigation plans
- Determine resource requirements for both capital and staffing (internally and externally)
- Clearly outline roles & responsibilities for each project team member
- Verify that project work process is followed and key deliverables are satisfactory completed before project is presented to proceed to next stage (i.e. stage gate management)
- Communicate key status updates to senior management
- Integration of cross functional team members (Production, Maintenance, EH&S, Quality, etc)
- Support the development of multi-year capital budgets for the Toronto facility
- Perform other duties as required.
Experience, Qualifications & Education
- Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree in Engineering (or similar technical discipline) required
- Masters Degree is an asset
- P.Eng, PMP, or CET designation is an asset
- Overall experience 7 to 10 years
- Experience managing capital projects with total cost > $1M
- Project Management experience in heavy industry manufacturing is a requirement, preferably in metallurgy, mining, or chemical industry
- Experience in Construction Management is an asset
- Experience working in Operations is an asset
- Knowledge of risk management tools (e.g. FMEA, HAZOP, etc)
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to drive and lead effective change through establishment of clear expectations and delegation of authority
- Ability to work with other functional areas with a good understanding of the different players and their priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Proven experience in industrial construction projects, costing, project control, contractual complaints management and mediation.
- Knowledge and experience in construction and labor management.
- Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
- Extensive knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards
