Overview:
**Term: 1 year**

The Research Assistant III will lead virtual clinical interventions related to exercise, health education, and goal management, working to assist Laura Middleton (Principal Investigator) and the trial coordinator. This position will be based in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Service though many activities may be performed remotely. The Research Assistant will supervise student volunteers who will assist in the intervention delivery.

**Responsibilities**:
Research Support:

- Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

- Manage and oversee the safe and effective delivery of clinical trial interventions, including responsibility for communication with participants, supply of exercise equipment, and documenting data related to attendance and participation and intervention feasibility.
- Deliver and troubleshoot intervention, which may include training others on the intervention protocol, support of technology, and maintenance of standard operating procedures for the trial intervention.
- Design individual intervention classes, adapting for the complex and unique needs and abilities of participants as needed.
- Oversee the progress of the interventions and conduct in research activities by performing tasks such as data collection (related to the intervention), scheduling of assessments, and documenting adherence to, and feasibility and acceptability of, trial methods
- Organize and maintain documentation, trial records and data; including electronic files and backups
- Directly contribute to research by collecting, analyzing, and interpretation feasibility results regarding intervention
- Participate in recruitment of research participants; organize intervention procedures and support volunteers
- May supervise, schedule and train students, volunteers and/or staff and make recommendations on hiring for the project
- Collaborate and support study investigators, staff, and volunteers across multiple sites
- Assists with special projects and other duties related to the research

Qualifications:

- Completion of post-secondary degree or equivalent education and experience; post-graduate degree is an asset
- Degree in the field of study related to the research being conducted is preferred
- Clinical exercise physiologist or Registered Kinesiologist designation is required
- Experience delivering exercise to older adults; experience in virtual delivery and delivery to people with cognitive impairment is preferred
- Three year’s experience in a research academic environment is preferred
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Knowledge of University of Waterloo policies and procedures is an asset
- Proven high-quality customer service interactions with faculty, staff, students, research participants
- Proven aptitude for attention to detail
- Demonstrated decision-making skills, including the ability to ask probing questions and anticipate customer needs
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written
- Supervisory and leadership experience in a research setting is an asset
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands with competing deadlines
