**What we are looking for**

The Research Assistant will be a key member of GoodLeaf’s Research and Development team. Reporting to the Head Grower, the Research Assistant will play a vital role in our research facility by contributing to cultivar screening, selection, and grow trials. In addition, this position involves conducting research on new substrate options, assisting with experimental design, as well as actively participating in various horticultural tasks such as seeding, harvesting, post-harvest sensory evaluation and department sanitation. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for monitoring crop health and growth to support our ongoing research efforts.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Cultivar Screening and Selection**: Assist in the evaluation of different plant cultivars for their growth and yield potential. Participate in the selection of cultivars that meet GoodLeaf’s quality and production standards.
- **Grow Trials**: Contribute to the planning, execution, and monitoring of grow trials to assess the performance of selected cultivars under various conditions.
- **Substrate Research**: Conduct research on new substrate options and their suitability for plant growth, including testing their impact on crop productivity and quality.
- **Experimental Design**:Collaborate with the research team to help design and set up experiments in line with the defined research agenda. Ensure data collection and analysis are carried out accurately.
- **Team Player**: Act as a reliable team player by assisting with tasks such as seeding, harvesting, and maintaining department sanitation to ensure a clean and organized work environment.
- **Crop Monitoring**: Continuously monitor the health and growth of crops, promptly identifying and addressing any issues related to pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies.
- **Post-Harvest Sensory Evaluation**: Regular monitoring of post-harvest shelf life and product quality. Completing sensory evaluation forms and submitting reports as scheduled

**Qualifications & Educational Requirements**
- Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, or related field preferred. Masters’ Degree is an asset but not required.
- Previous experience in a horticultural or research role is an advantage, but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of plant biology, crop production, and horticultural practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a dynamic and fast-paced research environment.
