About the Role

The Custodial Staff/Cleaners at Vancouver Film School (VFS) is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of our six campuses. This dynamic position requires daily flexibility to rotate between all campuses, working in tandem with other custodial staff to maintain the high standards of our facilities. This role involves cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, changing garbage bins, tidying classrooms, maintaining common areas, and monitoring supplies such as soap and paper towels. Additionally, the Custodial Staff will ensure the cleanliness of staff and student kitchens.

This is an auxiliary role with full time available starting November 18, and providing coverage for temporary position leave of absence through December. This position may have the opportunity to resume hourly as needed during high volume times in 2025.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Cleaning and Maintenance:

- Clean and sanitize bathrooms, ensuring all fixtures are spotless and restocked with necessary supplies.
- Change garbage bins in all areas of the campus, ensuring timely and hygienic disposal.
- Tidy and maintain classrooms, ensuring a clean and organized learning environment.
- Maintain common areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and welcoming for students and staff.
- Monitor and replenish soap and paper towel supplies in all designated areas.
- Kitchens:

- Maintain cleanliness in staff and student kitchens, including wiping down surfaces, cleaning sinks, and ensuring appliances are clean and functional.
- General Duties:

- Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and identify any maintenance needs.
- Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to Facilities.
- Follow all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Utilize cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and efficiently according to VFS protocols.
- Team Collaboration:

- Work collaboratively with other custodial staff to ensure all tasks are completed effectively.
- Rotate between different campuses daily, adapting to the specific needs and schedules of each location.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning after school events as needed.
- Participate in training sessions and team meetings to stay updated on VFS policies and procedures.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Proven experience in a custodial or janitorial role.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and disposal methods.
- Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery used in cleaning.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects.

**Work Environment**: This role requires flexibility to work across multiple campus locations. The Custodial Staff work across different schedules, where they may be required to work during early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed to meet the demands of the school schedule.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract

Pay: From $21.63 per hour
