Affiliated Services for Children and Youth (ASCY) requires a Behaviour Consultant for ASCY-Lynwood Charlton (LCC) School Age Partnership Program for a **10 month contract position.**

Through direct service and consultation, the behaviour consultant promotes inclusionary practices geared to enhance the capacity of staff working within prescribed Before and After School programs and/or licensed child care programs specifically with children experiencing significant behavioural/mental health concerns. The Behaviour Consultant will work in collaboration with the multi-agency interdisciplinary team to build the capacity of supervisors and educators in responding to current needs and issues in programs in the area of behavioural/mental health concerns of children by facilitating professional learning events and professional learning communities.

**Reports to**: Manager of Quality and Inclusion

**Location**: 526 Upper Paradise Road, Unit A, Hamilton, ON L9C 5E3

**What we offer**:

- 10 month contract position of 37.5 hours a week (September 2023 - June 2024)
- Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30am with flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular hours (expectation for early morning and early evening hours arranged through flexible work arrangements)
- Salary: $27.25-$33.50/hr. depending on experience
- 8% vacation pay
- 3 days of paid time off during December holiday season

**Primary Functions and Responsibilities**:

- Staff Person Providing Support and Consultation:_
- Making visits to identified BASP and/or child care programs to heighten staff awareness, knowledge and confidence in supporting children with behavioural/mental health concerns by:

- Working from a strength or asset-based approach using a variety of developmental/environmental tools and observations, identifying and examining potential environmental influences, triggers and strategies to challenging behaviour being demonstrated in the classroom.
- Making recommendations for materials, tools and/or accommodations to facilitate functioning (ex. modification of the program environment), taking into consideration cognitive, physical, social and emotional development
- Responding to the needs of licensed BASP and/or child care programs by accessing/sharing community resources and relevant research in regard to behaviour, self-regulation and mental health.
- Aiding in the development of differentiated instructional, environmental and behavioral strategies. This may involve collaboration with children and their programs.
- Providing consultation and program wide strategies to support the inclusion of children with behavioural/mental health concerns. Consultation may include coaching, mentoring, exploration of applicable strategies and other informal supports to program staff.
- Supporting the development of a plan outlining behaviour guidance strategies which the program staff can use to support the child’s optimal development, self-regulation and adaptive skills. Plans will be developed in partnership with the child care provider, child to the extent possible, and other professionals involved with the program.
- Making suggestions pertaining to appropriate referrals to other community services and supports as needed.
- Providing recommendations and completing a summary report when a program no longer requires formal services/support.
- Lead Responsibilities:_
- Developing, and/or facilitating professional learning opportunities, study groups, staff meeting discussions, etc. to enhance and build the capacity of supervisors and educators in working with children with behavioural/mental health concerns.
- Training and Professional Development:_
- Participating in all mandatory agency and program training and in-service processes.
- Assuming responsibility for their own professional development, including keeping up to date with new developments in the field and acquiring new skills to best serve community programs.

- Clinical Skills:_
- Reviewing of information on Service Request Forms and creating a plan for support.
- Monitoring caseload and coordinating program visits.
- Completing quarterly statistics on service delivery.
- Engaging in a collaborative model and discussing appropriate child behaviour.

- Developing rapport and relationships with child care program staff, and children/youth.
- Working collaboratively and cooperatively with internal and external parties.
