The Manitoba Securities Commission acts in the public interest to protect Manitoba investors and to facilitate the raising of capital while maintaining fairness and integrity in the securities marketplace. Similarly, its real estate industry mandate is to regulate brokers, salespeople and mortgage brokers to ensure adequate standards are maintained for the protection of the public.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Must be a member in good standing or eligible for membership with the Law Society of Manitoba
- Must have a valid Driver's license
- Must be able to travel within Canada and the United States by ground and air transportation

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Corporate and commercial law experience including practicing law as a member of the Law Society of Manitoba or an equivalent governing body.
- Extensive experience in securities regulation and legislation in Canada.
- Extensive experience in the regulation of real estate brokerage and mortgage brokerage industries.
- Extensive experience working in a regulatory environment.
- Experience managing or supervising staff.
- Strong political acumen with the ability to work with sensitive information and conduct business in a confidential and professional manner.
- Strong negotiation skills using sound judgment and diplomacy when resolving contentious issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effective written communication skills with the ability to compose a variety of documents, policies, legislation and confidential correspondence.
- Effective verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present information to senior management for decision making purposes.

**Desired**:

- Experience working in one or more of the industries regulated by the Commission
- Completion of the Canadian Securities Course

**Duties**:

- Reporting directly to the Director and Secretary of the Commission, the General Counsel, as the Chief Legal Officer, is the senior manager accountable for the all legal services and legal advice provided to the Agency and the Commission, which includes: directly managing all of the Agency’s legal staff and assistants, including assigning matters and monitoring the progress of such matters as providing legal advice, including written legal opinions, to Agency staff and Members of the Commission._
