**GENERAL SUMMARY**

Working closely with the Youth Development and Programs Specialist and the Day Camp Leader, the Day Camp Counsellor (Recreation), will assist in creating, organizing and instructing recreational camps for children and youth between the ages 6 to 12. The day camp counsellor is expected to follow all BGC Ottawa’s policies and procedures and safeguard participants. Furthermore, BGC Ottawa counsellors must act in a responsible and professional manner and display strong leadership.

Summer Day Camp runs Monday to Friday. Regular Camp hours run from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Pre-care hours take place before camp and start between 8:00a.m. and 8:45am. Post-care takes place at the end of the day between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Summer day camp activities will include (but are not limited to) physical activities, day-trips, creative arts, science experiments, cooking, and more. Our Summer Day Camps provide a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages youth to dream big and think outside the box. They provide an environment where kids can connect, share and create bonds that will last a lifetime.

**RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIES**
- Regularly and accurately follow through with policies and procedures as expected, especially BGC Ottawa’s programs policies and procedures and its health and safety policies which will be clearly outlined in staff training and accessible to all staff.
- Regularly advise staff and supervisors of pertinent information regarding summer camps and our clients.
- Follow proper member attendance tracking daily, including adhering to safe sign-in and sign-out policies.
- Assist in planning and animating daily activities and ensuring activity supplies are sufficient.
- Ensure areas are properly cleaned at the end of the day, which includes cleaning up supplies, organizing storage, washing dishes, sweeping floors, etc.
- Follow proper behavioral modification procedures.
- Ensure all discipline issues are communicated with the Youth Development and Program Specialists and/or Clubhouse Manager.
- Ensure all workplace accidents are properly reported to supervisors and incident reports are filled out and filed in a timely fashion.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Required Education, Training and Experience**
- Completed police record check (vulnerable sector); must be processed within the last 6 months
- Enrolled in or completed post-secondary education
- Minimum 3 years of strong experience working with children
- Experience overseeing programs
- Experience maintaining database records
- Recognized certification in first aid is an asset
- HIGH FIVE certificate is an asset
- Multilingualism is an asset

**Start Date**:
June 24, 2024

**Hourly Wage**:
16.55-17.05 rate of pay will be dependent upon previous experience levels

The majority of the work is performed in an environment that is mostly, clean and comfortable. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision on a computer screen for a large part of the working day. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
