HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-4:30PM

*This is a Full time, temporary position until March 31, 2024*

**JOB PURPOSE**:
The HER (Healthy, Empowered, Resilient) Pregnancy Worker position is a woman-centred position assists street-involved pregnant women attain their highest level of health and safety utilizing the harm reduction approach. The HER team Social Worker addresses structural and systemic barriers that inhibit women from accessing necessary social supports. She works with Child & Family Services (CFS) as a liaison between clients, the team and the government - but is not CFS. She provides support, connection, advocacy and referrals with systems that the clients are forced to work with.

**KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Front-line service delivery function, and systems change agent.
- Responsible for connecting with pregnant women who are street-involved, providing services that help them become engaged in the pregnancy, performing simple pregnancy-specific skills, general staffing of program and establishing and maintaining appropriate community contacts.
- Support individuals to take charge of their own lives and health by developing and maintaining a support relationship with users of the service, promoting risk reduction and exploring options for behaviour change, linking clients to appropriate supports.
- Provide advice and support to community agencies.
- Document changes in the environment which affect the target population. Address structural and systemic barriers that inhibit women from accessing necessary supports.
- Work with Children Services as liaison between the HER pregnancy team and Children’s Services, and support clients in this relationship.
- Provide education to professionals and students.

**Skills, Abilities and Attitudes**:

- Knowledge of or ability to adopt Harm Reduction practice and philosophy.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-changing environment
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about street culture and Indigenous culture.
- Knowledge of local resources
- Non-judgmental, compassionate, and energetic

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:
Degree in Social Work. Must have active registration with the ACSW within the first 3 months of employment.

**Experience and Other Requirements**:

- Criminal Record and Child and Youth Information Systems check are required by the successful applicant prior to work commencement.
- Valid standard First Aid Certificate
- Valid (non GDL) Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Training in suicide prevention and non-violent crisis intervention
- If personal history includes addictions, stability is required and is expected to be maintained.
- Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis)
