**BLOOD TRIBE POLICE SERVICE**
**POSITION TITLE**:Constable (Community Policing Unit)
**REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS**:
**POSITION REPORTS TO**:Sergeant i/c Community Policing Unit
**POSITION FUNCTION**:
The Constable supports community policing, is responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and enforcing laws.
**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Patrols a designated area of the Blood Tribe to preserve law and order, discover and prevent the commission of crimes, and checks property for physical security
Responds to citizen calls for service and complaints
Provides assistance to the general public, counsels and refers citizens to appropriate social agencies, and answers questions regarding police policies and procedures, and laws.
Maintains contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement related problems and preserves good relationships with the general public
Takes an active role in the area of public education relative to crime and crime prevention
Investigates motor vehicle collisions, performs first aid as necessary, secures and clears motor vehicle collision scenes, and directs traffic
Arrests offenders in violation of the law
Interviews victims and witness, and interrogates suspects
Transports victims, witnesses, and suspects to the BTPS headquarters
Books prisoners, assists in the custody, care, and welfare of prisoners
Prepares written reports, clearly and concisely on arrests made and activities performed
Serves subpoenas and summonses, and executes warrants for arrests
Appears and testifies in court
Maintains the peace during civil disturbances
Transports persons in custody to other facilities
Provides care to injured persons
Provides field training and supervision to cadets
Develops and utilizes informants, and forwards criminal intelligence to the Crime Reduction Unit
Maintain all BTPS personal issue equipment as well as assigned equipment (ex: patrol vehicle, firearms, radio, etc.)
Performs other duties as required.

Ability to use: police firearms, baton, OC spray, taser, and Ability to let people know of decisions, changes, and other radio relevant information in a timely fashion
Knowledge of Federal, Provincial, and Blood Tribe bylaws as Ability to speak effectively one-to-one well as laws of arrest, and search and seizure
Ability to speak effectively before groups and respond to
Knowledge of agencies available to render needed assistance questions
Ability to use selected job-specific hardware and software Ability to demonstrate attention and convey understanding of the comments or questions of others
Must maintain a valid Alberta operator’s license

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:
Job requires the incumbent to sit, stand, walk, talk/hear, and be able to subdue suspects to affect arrests and meet all the basic requirements of a police constable.
