Position Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator of Transit Fleet Maintenance, this position supervises and directs all activities and staff related to the delivery of comprehensive maintenance programs for the corporation’s fleet of transit buses. A key requirement of this position is supervising and directing resources in order to maximize the level of safe, efficient, and effective delivery of bus maintenance services. This includes preventative maintenance, breakdowns/ accident repairs, washing/cleaning, and fueling.

This shall be accomplished by enabling a respectful, engaging work environment tailored for learning to help ensure the continued development of a workforce that is high performing, innovative and focused on customer service. Full supervisory responsibilities are exercised over applicable staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assesses vehicle and equipment condition and initiates repair work orders.
- Maintains various records related to vehicles and waste dangerous goods.
- Instructs and directs maintenance personnel in the use of tools, equipment and work procedures and reinforces safety regulations.
- Responsible for the supervision, workmanship and development of maintenance personnel including providing direction, ensuring appropriate training, assigning duties, and reviewing performance of staff.
- Assist Coordinator of Transit Fleet Maintenance in preparing work and vacation schedules for maintenance personnel.
- Monitors Workers’ Compensation Board reports and recommends corrective action and alternative processes to prevent injuries to maintenance personnel.
- Instructs maintenance personnel in the OEM recommended repair/maintenance of transit equipment/vehicles.
- Maintains technical bulletin file.
- Monitors vehicle/equipment performance and recommends corrective action.
- Consults with the branch storekeeper regarding parts requirements.
- Works closely with the Night Foreman in the maintenance of detailed records of service and vehicle/equipment repair and maintenance.
- Supervises the maintenance and repair of all shop equipment and tools.
- Participates in the branch budget development, monitoring, and reporting processes.
- Assists in the selection and purchase of shop equipment.
- Conducts daily production/safety meetings with staff to ensure the availability of resources to complete the scheduled maintenance activities.
- Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, Provincial, and City bylaws, policies, procedures, and legislation, including the Highway Traffic Act, Transport Canada Acts and Regulations
- Ability to effectively diagnose vehicle/equipment defects.
- Ability to effectively plan, direct, and supervise the work of technical subordinates.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and blue prints.
- Ability to comprehend various technical instructions, service bulletins/letters, and convey information effectively to subordinate personnel.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written form.
- Ability to make quick, effective decisions regarding corrective repair procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of the methods and skill in the use of tools and equipment utilized in the repair/maintenance of Transit Fleet Maintenance vehicles and equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of the M5 Operating System.
- Ability to maintain effective working relations with all City of Regina employees and the general public.
- Ability to follow and adhere to all safety regulations, policies and procedures as set out by the department.

Education & Experience
- Completion of Journeyman’s Certificate in Heavy Duty Repair or Truck and Transport Repair.
- Completion of Achievement in Business Competencies (Blue Seal) Program
- Three (3) to five (5) years experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty diesel equipment and gasoline equipment, heavy-duty automatic transmissions and related accessories of electric, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic nature. Some knowledge of plumbing, heating, and electrical procedures is required. Supervisory experience is required.

Working/Other Conditions
- Valid Saskatchewan Drivers’ License with Air Brake Endorsement.
