**POSITION: Science and Grant Writer**

Office of Research Services (CHEO Research Institute) 0.6 FTE
Corporate Philanthropy (CHEO Foundation) 0.4 FTE

**TERM**:1.0 FTE (5 days a week, 37.5 hours). **Hybrid model. Fulltime. **Permanent position.

**SALARY**:$38.00/hour - $47.00/hour, commensurate with skills and experience

**REPORTS TO**:Manager, Grants and Awards (CHEO Research Institute) and Vice President, Corporate Philanthropy and Community Engagement (CHEO Foundation)

CHEO Research Institute (“CHEO RI”) is the research arm of CHEO (a regional pediatric health and teaching centre serving Easter Ontario, Western Québec, and Nunavut) and an affiliated institute of the University of Ottawa. **MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Edit, write, and critique funding proposals and supporting documentation.
- Strengthen funding proposals by conducting research for supporting facts, data, and other information.
- Edit and critique academic manuscripts of strategic priority for CHEO RI.
- Distill scientific content for a variety of audiences and communication platforms.
- Develop and manage a timeline and framework for meeting grant and publication deadlines.
- Liaise with and support investigators, staff, and trainees across a broad spectrum of health research disciplines (biomedical, clinical, health services, etc.).
- Design and deliver training workshops to enhance skills and knowledge surrounding grant writing, and evaluation of fellow staff members.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and mentorship to individuals seeking to improve their grant writing skills.
- Develop resources and tools to support ongoing learning and development in grant writing and research administration.

Important to the success of this role, the successful individual will develop processes and best-practices for collaboration between CHEO RI, CHEO Foundation, and CHEO for Grant proposals, implementation, and evaluation.

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
- Master’s degree or higher in a biomedical field and minimum 5 years relevant experience. (Essential)
- Experienced in academic writing: editing and reviewing research grants and publications. (Essential)
- Experience developing and justifying large-scale or complex study budgets. (preferred)
- Familiarity with the health research funding environment and grant agency guidelines. (Essential)
- Experience working with large research teams and multidisciplinary projects. (preferred)
- Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills. (Essential)
- Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific ideas for a variety of audiences. (Essential)
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, for academic and lay audiences. (Essential)
- Advanced computer skills (e.g., MS Office, REDCap, Adobe, reference management). (Essential)
- Outstanding organizational, accountability and time-management skills. (Essential)
- Excellent inter-personnel skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment. (Essential)
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset. (preferred)

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Able to handle a heavy work volume in a busy work environment, while managing competing priorities.
- Able to be flexible with working hours to meet tight deadlines.
- Able to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Able to share information in an effective and collaborative manner.
- Able to be creative, identify opportunities, and demonstrate initiative to generate improvements.
- Able to work in a hybrid (primarily remote) work model.

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Eligible to work in Canada; and
- Compliance with CHEO RI’s Universal COVID-19 Vaccination Policy; and
- Police Record Check.
