Environmental Service Worker

**Job Description**:
The Environmental Service Worker (ESW) maintains an environment which ensures the health, safety and welfare of the clients, staff, visitors, and stakeholders of Riverview Enhanced Living Society. The ESW provides a high standard of service that promotes infection control, and a tidy, clean-living environment for the comfort of the clients living at LaHave House. The ESW is a positive role model for residents while working in an atmosphere of continuous quality improvement.

**Requirements**:

- Must have completed high school or equivalent.

**Responsibilities**:
General

Perform general cleaning of the facility as per environmental policies.
- Store equipment, chemicals, cleaning agents and supplies safely and ensure all controlled products have the correct workplace label according to WHMIS.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Report any equipment failures and maintenance repairs to the maintenance department using the clipboard in the staff lounge. If the repair needs immediate attention, report it directly to the maintenance operator or supervisor. Ensure equipment in need of repair is labeled stating the date and the reason for repair.
- Maintain current knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and use products as per manufacturer instructions. All chemicals must be mixed according to supplier directions to ensure correct dilution rates for safe and economical use.
- Participate in educational and in-service programs as required and directed.
- Stimulate interest and encourage participation of residents with normal daily cleaning tasks.
- Keep current and informed by regularly reviewing residents programs, memos, meeting minutes and policies and procedures.
- Provide support to team members by sharing responsibilities.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to residents and all affairs of Riverview Enhanced Living Society.
- As a representative of Riverview Enhanced Living Society, the employee is responsible for setting an example and must be a role model for the residents. The employee must also always conduct oneself in a professional and mature manner.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be deemed necessary from time to time or as directed to support the changing needs of the clients.
- Participate in committees as assigned such as the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC)
- Attend team, general staff, and departmental meetings.
- Follow the workflow guide to ensure all duties are completed on a daily and rotational basis.

Housekeeping
- Distribute cleaning and paper supplies weekly to all units.
- Monitor supplies and prepare requests for orders monthly.
- Clean and sanitize all surfaces such as sinks, counters, knobs, and hand railings.
- Clean and sanitize washroom facilities, tub rooms, and shower rooms.
- Clean and sanitize all floors daily.
- Polish and wax floors weekly or as needed.
- Dispose of garbage as needed throughout the shift and at the end of the shift.
- Ensure all areas of a room are cleaned when performing complete cleaning duties by moving items from walls, shelves, and closets and clean under furniture.
- Report to the clinic any medications found in client's room or on the floor.

Laundry
- Collect linens, towels, and soiled laundry from the units.
- Separate laundry into loads of sheets/towels, white personals, colored personals, soaker pads/heavily soiled laundry, mops/rags, and spreads and slings using the scale cart to measure 60-65 pounds and wash.
- Dry and fold laundry.
- Deliver clean folded laundry to designated units.
- Clean and sanitize sinks, carts, and surfaces.
- Sweep and mop floors and dispose of garbage.
- Clean the dryer lint screen.
