Principal - Atlin School

School District 87, Stikine, serves students and families on the unceded traditional territories of the Tahltan, Kaska and Tlingit First Nations and we honour these relationships. Atlin is home to the Taku River Tlingit First Nation and you will have the privilege to learn about Tlingit culture and traditions. There are many places to explore and experience adventures within Tlingit Territory. Most residents go fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, canoeing, kayaking, snowmobiling, hunting, quadding, boating, skiing, mountain biking and much more. We are seeking a school administrator who takes a student-centered approach to leadership; has strong communication and liaison skills; and who is committed to excellence in education to support school and student growth. We welcome educators who have:
Demonstrated understanding and respect for Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being and Doing;
Successful experience with the integration of First Nations Language and Culture;
Commitment to and progress toward Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action related to education;
Demonstrated ability to establish respectful relationships with learners, parents, staff, community and First Nations Peoples;
**A high energy level with personal attributes that include**: integrity, flexibility, and dedication;
Demonstrated excellence as a successful Principal, Vice Principal or District Leader;
Experience and knowledge of the B.C. K to 12 curriculum;
Thorough understanding of effective assessment and evaluation practices;
Knowledge and experience in Learner Support Services;
A fundamental belief that all learners can achieve at a high level;
Demonstrated effective leadership during critical incidents and other stressful conditions;
Have knowledge of and experience with training, delivery and leading initiatives pertaining to Trauma Informed Practice in support of students;
The knowledge and ability to guide staff and students with differentiated learning strategies;
The necessity to be confidential when dealing with sensitive issues pertaining to students and staff;
All applicants must hold a valid BC teaching certificate and should have completed a Master’s degree in Administration; Education Leadership; Curriculum; or other relevant area.
