**Position**:
**Gardening & Maintenance Assistant**

(35 hrs/wk for 8 weeks)

**Responsible To: Member Services Coordinator**

**Eligible Participants shall**:

- Be eligible for the Government of NL Summer Employment Program for Students.
- Be a student currently attending high school or post-secondary school and returning to school in September 2024.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Not be an immediate family member of a director or senior manager of the organization.

**Expectations**:
It is expected that the incumbent will adhere to, practice and promote Independent Living philosophy and principles; is sensitive to, respectful of and understands individual needs; is committed to a team approach; and demonstrates flexibility.

**Duties / Responsibilities**:
1. Assist members and volunteers who are involved with gardening activities.

2. Coordinate annual Spruce-up, a peer support event involving members and gardeners.

3. Perform maintenance tasks for the building (changing light bulbs, moving equipment, etc.) and garden (mowing, planting, weeding, etc.).

4. Other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**:
a. Knowledge of or experience with disability issues.

b. Strong organization skills.

c. Ability to work with and without supervision; Ability to work as part of a team; Respects the confidentiality of consumers.

d. Self-starter, enthusiastic

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 weeks

Pay: $15.60 per hour

- 8 hour shift

Ability to commute/relocate:

- St. John's, NL A1A 3R6: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
