**Knowledge Weaver - Sea Gardens Restoration Coordinator**:

**PURPOSE**:
Reporting to the Parks Canada Operations Engagement Advisor, the Knowledge Weaver - Sea Gardens Restoration Coordinator will be responsible for building meaningful relationships between First Nations and non
- First Nations in the areas of knowing, understanding and interacting with the landscape and seascape throughout Cowichan Tribes’ Territory, including the area known as Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (GINPR). The Knowledge Weaver will assist in organizing community interest and support for the three pillars of the Sea Gardens Restoration project which include the Restoration of Sea Garden sites in the Southern Gulf Islands, supporting safe harvesting of shellfish for First Nation communities, and the return of First Nations management of Sea Gardens in the Southern Gulf Islands. This is a Full-Time Term position ending on or about March 31, 2025, that works primarily in the office with a moderate amount of local and regional travel, including marine travel throughout the Southern Gulf Islands.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**:
Cowichan Tribes offers an excellent benefit and pension plan available after successful completion of the probationary period. The position includes paid training, paid vacation and paid sick leave. Depending on experience, the position starts at $33.42 - $35.45 per hour ($$60,815.66 - $ $64,512.30 annually).

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide direct support to Cowichan Tribes in planning and implementing First Nations-led conservation efforts that support activities related to advancing food sovereignty. This may include providing support in accessing and including western scientific approaches in conservation and restoration activities
- Assist in developing opportunities for First Nations partners to be meaningfully engaged and involved in monitoring, active management, and conservation and restoration activities at Sea Garden sites
- Communicate with various audiences on the innovative work of the Knowledge Weaving program, focusing especially on youth. This activity may be pursued in collaboration with other Lulumexun youth outreach work
- As culturally appropriate and as directed, gather and communicate First Nations Knowledge and Science on focal areas related to Sea Gardens restoration
- Participate in workshops and other information sharing meetings offered by Parks Canada and other groups focused on food sovereignty and Sea Gardens
- Receive appropriate land-based training needed to conduct data collection and analysis as well as active management activities
- Assist with file management related to the Sea Gardens Restoration project
- Assist with Sea Gardens Restoration project reporting as required
- Participate in specified marine planning meetings and provide updates on the Sea Gardens Restoration project
- Support participation in committees of council meetings as needed to provide updates and receive instruction on the Sea Gardens Restoration project
- Generate monthly reports and work plans as directed, participating in year-end reporting process as needed
- Contribute to monthly community newsletter submissions
- Explore collaborative options and/or develop recommendations as to next steps for the management and oversight of the Sea Gardens restoration project
- While the primary focus will be with the Sea Gardens restoration project, the Knowledge Weaver may also be provided opportunities for learning and mentorship with other Parks Canada departments over the course of their term, as time allows
- Other related duties as required

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:_(please attach all required documents)_**
- Minimum completion of Grade 12 or equivalent required
- Completion or current participation in a post-secondary education, or equivalent experience relating to indicated skill sets an asset
- Experience working in a First Nations community is essential
- Experience working between First Nations & government agencies/organizations is preferred
- Demonstrated experience conducting research, producing reports and delivering presentations required
- Environmental experience specifically relating to the marine environment is considered an asset
- Criminal Record Check required
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle required
