**Social Services Assistant, M.A.P. (Managed Alcohol Program)**
**Start Date (Tentative): May 13**th**, (8 to 15-week duration)**

**Wage: $18.00/hour**

**Hours: 37.5 hours/week**

Reporting to the Program Manager of Managed Alcohol Program (MAP) the Social Services Assistant - MAP will act as a support for the other fulltime staff. Supporting in their day-to-day client appointments, and the service delivery of the Managed Alcohol Program. This position is a full-time position with a 37.5 hour work week for 15 weeks.

The Managed Alcohol Program (MAP) is designed to support people who are consuming non-beverage alcohol (i.e., hand sanitizer) and/or whose consumption of alcohol is negatively impacting their housing status and health. Participants are provided a daily allotment of wine, assisted with resource provision and system navigation, and participate in programming and peer groups.

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**Position Responsibilities**
- Follow-up on intakes with community members who would be eligible to be selected as a participant for the program
- Conduct outreach within the community to meet potential new participants and inform community members and community partners about the program
- Complete intakes with community members who would be eligible to be selected as a participant for the program
- Educate and inform community members about the full array of services within the organization, Including cultural supports
- Update staff on the progress of the program and its participants
- Ensure the MAP area is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all community members
- Participate in service coordination between the various departments within Boyle Street
- Ensure all client data collection and reporting are carried out in an efficient and timely manner
- Assist participants in the daily operations related to brewing and program development
- Help facilitate weekly peer review meetings and take detailed notes on topics
- Conduct site visits with participants to external stakeholders
- Assist in daily cleaning duties of the space
- Maintain daily logs and progress reports
- Accompany participants to appointments and advocate on their behalf
- Ensure accessibility of program to participants regardless of barriers they may be facing (i.e., lack of transportation, cognitive/physical ability, etc)
- Participate in cultural activities, Ceremony, and daily smudge
- BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

**Qualifications**
- Experience of report writing is desirable
- Willingness to obtain knowledge and understanding of poverty related issues, trends, and services particularly, but not limited to the urban aboriginal population is essential
- Mental Resiliency and an aptitude for problem solving will be beneficial when working in an environment with challenges and risks
- Meet all Canada Summer Jobs Requirements*
- Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
- Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
- Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
