Early Childhood Educator

Ottawa, Canada Beacon Learning Centre Full time

Plan developmentally appropriate, stimulating, challenging and creative programming with a team of teachers for toddler children.
- Provide a safe, flexible, nurturing environment which promotes early learning.
- Prepare and set up classroom with planned activities, equipment and materials. Plan art and circle time.
- Maintain records for legislation and regulations.
- Attend to the physical needs of children and assist with self-help skills when necessary.
- Monitor the health and safety of the children.
- Provide an inclusive environment for all children.
- Ensure open communication with parents and create a welcoming environment. Explain the program philosophy and approach to parents, keeping them informed of their child’s growth and development and to respond to any concerns.
- Communicate any concerns to the Director and the teaching team regarding any areas that require problem solving.
- Clean and tidy the classroom at the end of each program to prepare for next group.
- Respect confidentiality and relate to parents, children, and other staff members in a professional, ethical manner.

Qualifications:

- An asset to be a Member in good standing with College of Early Childhood Educators
- ECE or equivalent with relevant experience in childcare
- Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA) and the Employment Standards Act of Ontario, 2010 (ESA)
- Knowledge and implementation of the ELECT framework as well as, “How Does Learning Happen?” Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Valid First Aid and CPR, vulnerable sector police records check, and an updated immunization report are required
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work closely with other team members
- Sensitivity and respect for individual and cultural differences
- Flexibility and openness to change

*Five month contract with possibility of an additional 10 months.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 5 months

**Salary**: $18.50-$21.00 per hour
