The position of Teaching Assistant for **MATH 101**:_Quantitative Reasoning_** is an exciting opportunity to gain proficiency with pedagogical techniques developed to promote a well-rounded and successful introduction to real-world quantitative thinking. It is an ideal position for those who are looking to diversify and enhance their teaching portfolios. Teaching Assistants will be able to refine their teaching craft through the mentorship of the lead instructor.

**Course Description**

MATH 101:_ Quantitative Reasoning_ will expose students to various aspects of quantitative reasoning, including the use of quantitative arguments to analyze problems, critique arguments, and draw and justify conclusions; the recognition and evaluation of quantitative assumptions; and the detection and interpretation of trends and patterns in quantitative data drawn from real-world sources and case studies. The course will nurture basic skills in numeracy, arithmetic, and estimation. In the process, students will learn to use algebraic and statistical methods to solve problems and understand changing quantities. They will also use visual and technological tools to assist with calculations and analysis. The format of the course involves 1 hour of lecture and 3 hours of lab-based active learning activity per week, emphasizing inquiry and practice.

**Duties**

The duties and responsibilities of Teaching Assistant, MATH 101, include:

- facilitating group collaboration sessions twice per week, providing students with context, assistance, and encouragement both synchronously and asynchronously in various modalities;
- reviewing and assessing group collaboration results asynchronously, and producing responses to share with the students and the principal instructor;
- grading and providing constructive feedback on a variety of assessment types, including computations, mathematical explanations, and reflective writing;
- answering student correspondence and providing support for their learning;
- recording grades in the learning management system;
- working in close collaboration with the principal instructor and actively participating in weekly instructional team meetings to ensure quality and consistency of course delivery;
- exemplifying the ideals upon which MATH 101 is based: collegiality, tenacity, adaptability, and reasonability.
