**Job Summary**

This position is responsible for the planning, development and the implementation of Bockstael Construction’s health and safety programs. Provide safety related direction and support to management and field staff. Enhances overall company health and safety to perform above federal and provincial government regulations.

RESPONSIBILITES

Ø Promote a culture in where health and safety is a value that will never be compromised and is a pre-condition.

Ø Prioritize, scope, resource and implement all aspects of the Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Ø Determine best industry practice and initiate or improve upon H&S management systems in order to meet highest standards,

Ø Be a clear and visible Health & Safety Leader and drive Bockstael’s H&S culture to the highest standard.

Ø Lead and participate in project incident investigations and reporting. Monitor implementation of corrective actions from incident investigations. Identify and correct the root cause of incidents.

Ø Ensures project and sub-contractors safety programs are developed and carried out.

Ø Oversees COR audits of company operations ensuring compliance with both government and company regulations and policies.

Ø Ensures that appropriate training programs are in place and tracks employee training.

Ø Assess effectiveness of existing programs and participate in the development of new programs to promote continuous improvement..

Ø Ensure Health & Safety strategies are aligned with performance improvement priorities and company objectives. Particularly strategies that that control operational risk.

Ø Monitor and respond to Health & Safety performance data (leading and lagging indicators).

Ø Assist project teams with project specific safety plans, safe work procedures, emergency response plans, safety analysis, hazard assessments, etc.

Ø Participate in orientation of new employees in Health and Safety program.

Ø Ensure tool box and safety meetings are held on a regular basis.

Ø Plan, direct and control the development of the Health & Safety programs, procedures and training plans and they are aligned with the company guidelines to ensure availability of skilled and competent staff.

Ø Prepare monthly and yearly status reports to monitor compliance.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Ø 5+ years’ experience in the construction industry; or 10+ years’ experience in other industry;
Ø Post-secondary education, preferably in a health and safety discipline;
Ø Professional designation is desirable; CSO, NCSO;
Ø Member of a recognized health and safety professional organization

Ø Intermediate computer skills required, MS Office;
Ø Experience and certification with the COR program and COR audit procedures;
Ø Strong organizational skills, ability to adapt to multiple demands, take initiative, set priorities and achieve results;
Ø Strong communication (written and verbal) and listening skills;
Ø Self-starter with mínimal supervision;
Ø Highly developed time management skills;
Ø Ability to develop relationships, while enforcing safety programs and regulations with confidentiality, fairness and integrity;
Ø Passion for continual improvement of project health and safety performance

Ø Ability to lead, empower and motivate on site project teams in all safety related manners; health and safety

Ø Excellent judgement and a concern for the well-being of others.
