**Reports to**: The Assistant Director of Nunavik Research Centre in the Department of Environment, Wildlife and Research.

**Location**: Kuujjuaq

**Status of Employment**: Permanent

**Salary**: According to the Salary Scale

**Benefits**: All marginal benefits available to employees of Makivvik as outlined in the Makivvik Human Resources Policy Manual.

**Responsabilities**:

- Plan, coordinate and undertake research projects and monitoring programs of zoonoses to strengthen food safety in Nunavik;
- Participate (as required) in meetings of various committees and working groups;
- Prepare reports, funding submissions, project proposals and other documents as required;
- Communicate project results to communities ;
- Supervise certain staff;
- Conduct both field and lab work;
- Conduct qPCR on various tissue types to identify zoonoses;
- Assist and collaborate with NRC and DEWR staff on other files, as requested;
- Lead the wildlife sample kit program;
- Be available to travel, as requested;
- Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.

**Qualification**:

- Minimum MSc in biology with zoonotic or infectious disease focus, veterinary science or equivalent from accredited university;
- Good communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages: Inuktitut, English and/or French;
- Proficient computer skills : Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.);
- General knowledge of Inuit, Inuit traditions and cultural knowledge and

understanding, is an asset;
- Past parasitological and zoonotic disease research or relevant experience;
- Demonstrable field and lab experience;
- Good understanding of molecular biology methods (Sequencing, PCR, qPCR, electrophoresis, ELISA) and biosafety protocols;
- Ability to troubleshoot in the laboratory;
- Knowledge of mammalian anatomy;
- Experience with tissue identification, dissection, sampling, and storage;
- Experience presenting research methods and results;
- Past work experience with an indigenous organization an asset;
- Excellent inter-personnel skills.
