Your role

CBC Vancouver is looking for a TV Host-Producer to lead our CBC News BC streaming channel headlines team.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, News, you will be primarily responsible for CBC News British Columbia’s live headlines and breaking coverage on streaming, digital and social platforms. You will also play a role in shaping special news coverage on all platforms, act as an advocate and collaborator in the assignment process, and be deeply involved in the creation of new forms of storytelling with video across all platforms.

The Host-Producer is a dynamic individual with an engaging on-air presence who will create programming that provides context to developing and breaking news with multiple elements, including reporter-driven stories, original content and interviews. Your responsibilities will include assignment, the development of story ideas, the development of video content. You will present the news that matters to people in B.C. with authenticity, credibility, energy, gravitas and humour when appropriate, but will also conduct interviews - both on set and in the field - to engage with the people who make the news. You have superior presentation and on-air skills, and are at ease with changing priorities in a live news setting.

Working in close conjunction with the assignment team, an associate producer, and support staff in B.C. and Toronto, the Host-Producer will lead all aspects of production to develop coverage that not only reflect but also help set the news agenda in our province.

In addition, you will work closely with our other producers and digital team to help reshape the role of news programming in the digital space.

There is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity. There is a regular and ongoing requirement to coordinate the work of others.

Key Tasks:
- Conceives and develops headlines ideas and concepts. Participates in the preparation of editorial objectives. - Presents all aspects of the news and any television specials, including elections, breaking news etc., with an engaging on-air presence, strong presentation style and comfort with live production.- Plans and conducts interesting, inquisitive and relevant segments, interviews, and conversations with columnists to provide further context into the news of the day.- Creates a connection with audiences by presenting stories in an engaging and interesting manner, and sometimes engages with the audience in the community- Participates in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the station and/or the Corporation.- Develops the content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing. Prepares scripts. Determines the style, pace, tempo, line-up and format of the news updates.- Plans, organizes and co-ordinates news updates- Plans, selects and requests, in collaboration with the Managing Editor, the financial and production/resource requirements including the creative contributors and other participants, the material and facilities. - Exercises editorial responsibility as delegated by Management.- Evaluates all facets of a production including the performance of program and production personnel, and freelance contributors.

As required, performs the following tasks:
- Select, re-write and/or edit copy or text written by others.- Edit and mix, or direct the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements.- Ensure, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the program.- Determine the order and importance of various elements of a program.- Assign, co-ordinate and supervise the work of personnel for which the Producer is responsible.- Identify, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment.- Responsible for breaking news coverage during the evening news.- May occasionally fill in for various radio hosting roles.- University degree or equivalent.- Five years' experience of which three must involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry. - A strong team leader with the ability to inspire others.- Proven presentation skills in all aspects of live television, including news reading, br
