Casual Phlebotomist

The Phlebotomist performs routine laboratory preparations and tests within the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Lab. The Phlebotomist is responsible for a variety of activities including performance of venipuncture, stocking lab supplies, cleaning supplies, and data entry.

**Key Responsibilities**

**1. **Performs routine laboratory testing**
- Eliciting cooperation of patients when performing venipuncture by explaining procedures and allay fears;
- Conferring with patients to obtain information for laboratory records;
- Identifying, preparing, and storing specimens in accordance with standard procedures;
- Using the centrifuge, labeling and storing blood samples;
- Verifying the suitability and integrity of specimens; and
- Using the OFC clinic’s information system to enter, store and retrieve data

**2. **Perform a various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations by**:

- Participating in other quality assurance procedures and programs as required.

**3. **Makes the necessary preparations for lab tests when required by**:

- Preparing solutions and reagents needed for laboratory procedures; and
- Participating in maintaining inventory of supplies and reagents.

**4. **Room stocking, cleaning and autoclaving supplies**:

- Stocking examination and procedure rooms with supplies;
- Clearing all clinical areas of dirty supplies and preparing examination and procedure instruments for autoclaving;
**Qualifications and Experience**
- Grade twelve (OSSGD) and completion of a phlebotomy program from an accredited institution. Previous experience in a lab and proven capabilities as a phlebotomist is desirable.
