Independent Living Support Leader

L’Arche Homefires is seeking an energetic, compassionate individual who has a desire to nurture the growth of the Independent Living Support (ILS) Program and its assistants to support members with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ILS Leader will be a member of team leaders and will directly supervise the ILS Assistants. This role will support and foster the growing need to expand the ILS Program at L’Arche Homefires. Permanent roles offer a fair starting wage, based on the
L’Arche Canada National Compensation Policy. Permanent roles are eligible for L’Arche Homefire's extensive benefits package.
The ILS Leader will work closely with the ILS/Program Coordinator to ensure the mission, values, and growth of the program. The ILS Leader will directly encourage, train, and support the ILS assistants to embrace the core values and mission of L’Arche while adhering to the administrative and operational needs as required by the position.
**Location**:
L’Arche Homefires is a large, diverse, and energetic community. We have five homes and a growing Independent Living Support program spread throughout the Wolfville area. The ILS Leader will be based at the office on 341 Main Street in Wolfville.
**Major Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Ensures ILS Assistants create a welcoming, clean, safe, trusting, and unified home and supportive environment. Ensures diverse spiritual approaches are respected and time for meaningful reflection is shared.
- Nurtures the gifts and growth of all ILS Assistants, including members with developmental disabilities in the homes. Leads processes, such as annual reviews, circles of learning, roles and goals meetings, and individual planning and development.
- Ensures adherence to all policies, guidelines, and regulations as required by Department of Community Services and met and maintained.
- Encourages, teaches, and supports ILS Assistants to lead regular celebrations in the home and supports ILS Assistants to understand and maintain the traditions.
- Provides stability in the homes and the ILS program during times of change and transition.
- Seeks out opportunities for personal growth and reflection
- Set schedules, training and formation times, and support resources as necessary for the ILS Assistants
- Is proactive in understanding and supporting the ILS Program and its members by way of ensuring budgets, shopping, maintaining household needs, meal planning, work
opportunities, transportation, and medical needs are fully supported by the assistants working in the program.
- Effectively communicates and works with families, guardians, and professionals as required.
- Is an effective team member and collaborates with other ILS Leaders in the Atlantic Region to share best practices.
- Is an effective team member of the Team Leaders at L’Arche Homefires.
- Ability to be flexible to work some evenings and weekends
**Qualifications, Skills Needed, and Position Requirements**:
- Previous L’Arche experience (assistant, board member, volunteer, etc.) or equivalent, but not necessary
- Current clean driver’s license with own vehicle considered an asset
- Post-secondary degree or certificate in Human Services or a related field
- Minimum two years of management or supervisory experience
- Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening
- Ability to admit mistakes and learn; asks for and accepts help when needed
- Ability to be flexible and manage competing demands of multi-faceted responsibilities and work with little to no supervision
- Can remain calm, and focused in times of uncertainty and crisis, and can give clear directions and delegate duties as required
- Works collaboratively, models, and promotes conflict resolution
- Organized and able to set priorities and follow through on commitments in a timely fashion, with the ability to be a big-picture thinker and planner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good administrative skills organized and demonstrates time management skills.
- Ability to problem solve, think critically, and assist in reaching solutions and obtaining necessary resources
- Knowledge of software such as Find My Shift or UKG Kronos (or another Human Resources Information System) is considered an asset. Understanding of basic payroll process and excellent working knowledge of SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 office suite.
