The Calgary Food Bank is hiring a Dispatcher to join our Transportation Team

**Summary**: This position is responsible for coordinating all transportation services and activities at the Calgary Food Bank.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Organization of the day-to-day operations for all transportation services and activities at the Calgary Food Bank.
- Promote safe work practices within the Transportation department.
- Ensure Calgary Food Bank policies and procedures are adhered to by staff and volunteers.
- Organizing and prioritizing the work requirements of the Transportation Department to make efficient use of all drivers (volunteers, staff, contract and casual).
- Building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders to the Transportation department, to ensure effective operation of the Transportation department.
- Ensuring vehicles and procedures meet appropriate legislation standards including the Alberta Safety Fitness Program.
- Safe and proper use of equipment.
- Following all Health and Safety procedures, including completing any training that is required.
- Participate in ensuring ongoing cleanliness of the CFB facility.
- Performing other duties as required by the Logistics and Inventory Manager or transportation supervisor.

**Tasks Performed**:

- Ensure adequate coverage for drivers at all times.
- Participate in entering food in sheets, driver’s gleaning sheets, pickup, and delivery paperwork, entering appropriate information in the data system.
- The scheduling of all drivers supporting Food Bank approved programs and transportation requirements of other Food Bank departments.
- Liaising with the CE Department as to the requirement of the Transportation Department with regards to pickups and deliveries.
- Liaising, maintaining, and building relationships with all donors and satellite locations, ensuring all pickups and deliveries are done in a timely manner.
- Co-ordinating all pickups and deliveries to and from the warehouse with the L & I Supervisors, including transfers between CIFB locations.
- Building and maintaining relationships with organizations regarding donating their trucks and/or drivers for CIFB pickups/deliveries (with the exception of those required for the Regional Share Program).

**Decision Making & Leadership Capabilities**:

- Must be able to make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment, be solutions oriented, work with little direct management; be a Team Leader and have the flexibility required to carry out the tasks required.
- Provides leadership, support, training, supervision and encouragement to staff, volunteers, and fine options.

**Education and Experience Required**:

- Post-secondary education in a related field, such as business or supply chain.
- 2-5 years’ experience in logistics, shipping, transportation, or previous dispatching role required. A combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered.
- 1-2 years previous supervisory experience, preferable in dispatching.

**Skills and Capabilities**:

- High level of leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to set priorities and demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
- The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Intermediate computer skills required.
- Must enjoy working with a wide variety of people and be able to communicate clearly.
- Must be able to speak English clearly and fluently.
- Knowledge of transportation laws and regulations, including legislation

**Working Conditions and Physical Requirements**:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment, with occasional visits to the warehouse required.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hour per week, 5 days a week, 7.5 hours a day position. Hours worked beyond the regular work week must be preapproved will be earned and taken as lieu time.
