Building Material Salesperson

**BUILDING MATERIAL SALESPERSON**

**SYDENHAM HHBC AND INVERARY HHBC**

**FULL-TIME**

**HOURS: 8:00AM to 5:00PM (Start / End time may vary as required)**

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
The Building Material Sales person (aka Contractor Sales) is responsible for the sales and all items associated with construction and renovation including lumber, insulation, siding, roofing, windows and doors, plumbing and electrical. **A comprehensive knowledge of all items is not required but a willingness to learn is critical. Sales experience within the building material industry is required. Construction knowledge/ experience is a strong asset. **Developing and maintaining relationships with both professional customers and Do-It-Yourself customers is required.

**DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Developing and maintaining relationships with both professional customers and Do-It-Yourself customers
- Preparing Material Quotes
- Interpreting drawings and sketches to prepare material lists and pricing for projects
- Communicating with vendors on pricing and availability of products
- Ongoing communicating with sales, yard and delivery staff.
- Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain sales call reference files and prospect lists.
- Know prices, practices, and policies of the company’s competitors.
- Help customers solve building problems.
- Develop and maintain current files on new products.
- Update yourself with practical knowledge of building materials and lumber products, including their uses, advantages, and disadvantages.
- Resolve customer complaints.
- Be familiar with current yard inventory and surplus items.
- Suggest rule, policy and / or procedural changes when you believe they would improve efficiency, sales, profits, morale, etc.
- Maintain professional confidentiality of all store and customer records.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Must be able to communicate effectively and persuasively with employees, management, suppliers, customers, and prospective customers to obtain accurate information for bids, pricing, estimates, quotations, etc.
- Read, comprehend, and interpret written and printed materials and information presented in numerical and / or statistical form.
- Must possess mathematical skills necessary to prepare accurate and competitive bids in a timely manner.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.

**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**:

- Reports directly to the Store Manager, and/or Dealer-Owner.

**COMPENSATION**:

- Competitive wage rates offered. Wage varies depending on applicants relevant qualifications and experience. Submit resume for further information on compensation.
