Beacon is hiring a manager for a brand-new purpose-built low-barrier supportive housing facility for participants aged 19-27. The Meares building will provide wraparound 24/7 support for 48 young adults who are precariously housed or experiencing homelessness.
The goal of Meares is to use a collaborative, strength-based perspective that recognizes the individual skills, talents, and needs of our residents. In collaboration with community resources, Meares will provide life and living skills, two meals a day and a safe and welcoming environment to help give youth a stable home.
We are seeking a passionate, community-minded individual to join our team and set the foundation for youth to enter self-sustainable, independent housing when it is their time to exit the program.

Reporting to the Director of Homelessness Prevention and Shelter Services, the Manager of Meares will oversee the day-to-day operations of the new, purpose-built 48-room supportive housing building that provides individual supportive housing units, supportive programming, and case management to young adult participants. As Manager, you will support at-risk young adults in accessing our Shelter Services and Homelessness Prevention Services, building various personal skills, and overcoming barriers to their goals. The successful applicant must be prepared to manage in a dynamic, client-centred environment that uses evidence-based practices to support participants in successfully transitioning from the care system, criminal justice system, and homelessness into supportive housing.
You will have a thorough knowledge of Supportive Housing best practices as well as the issues that impact housing stability, including poverty, trauma/abuse, mental illness, and substance use.
**PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Leadership and Team Management**
- Provide strong leadership to a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment
- Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and training sessions to enhance staff skills
- Supervise staff and motivate them to bring their very best to work each day
- Create an environment that is rewarding and inspiring for staff and participants
- Maintain employee, client and volunteer confidentiality.
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff, including conducting performance reviews according to scheduled requirements
- Develop, implement, and revise policies and procedures for Meares Street Supportive Housing
**Participant support**
- Implement and oversee internal programs that address the unique needs of the participants dealing with addiction, homelessness, and mental health issues.
- Coordinate staff and multi-disciplinary teams to support participants with person-centered goals
- Ensure a smooth intake process for participants (including both intake and discharge when necessary).
- Fill vacancies through the Coordinated Access and Assessment process and the building has an appropriate mix of participants to ensure success for all.
- Collaborate with external service providers and community organizations to enhance resident services.
**Facility Operation and Management**
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the facility, including maintenance, security, and cleanliness.
- Ensure the facility meets regulations and requirements for matters such as health, safety, and capacity and, additionally, ensure adherence to Beacon Policies and Procedures, especially those related to safety.
- Coordinate and execute the purchase of supplies and equipment, respecting budget allocations.
- Identify, report, and take steps necessary to mitigate risks and to complete incident reports when necessary.
- Assist in budgets, billing and reporting to funders; collect, maintain and enter statistical and other data and prepare annual and various other reports as required.
- Drive to pick up supplies as needed
**Community Engagement**
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with local agencies, community partners
- Advocate for the needs and rights of residents within the broader community.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:
- A Degree, Diploma or certificate in social work, social services, public health or a related field,
- 3 to 5 years of front-line Support work experience in increasingly more senior roles;
- At least 2 of those years in a supervisory capacity in environments related to substance use, housing support and/or mental health.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Strong understanding of addiction, homelessness, and mental health issues, particularly in the context of young adults.
