**Duties**:
A research assistant is being sought to support research in the area of plant pathology and plant physiology. The role encompasses laboratory, greenhouse and field based duties working as part of a team and reporting to a Research Scientist to support a range of projects.

Major duties will support objectives characterizing variation in drought response among a defined set of wheat germplasm. The applicant will work as part of a team to conduct experiments using an array of lysimeters that precisely control irrigation protocols in a greenhouse. Experiments will be conducted to assess the growth response of wheat lines under irrigated and drought conditions. Variation in transpiration rates, flowering time and biomass accumulation will be measured. Mapping of the underlying genetic variation will be performed using a Nested-Association Mapping (NAM) population.

**Education**:
Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a relevant science field (i.e., biology, plant pathology, plant physiology, microbiology, genetics, or biochemistry) OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

**Experience**:
Experience providing support in a research environment.
Experience in using scientific instruments and methods for the production and maintenance of microorganism cultures.
Experience in conducting plant pathology assays.
Experience in collecting and recording data.

**Experience**:
Experience working with fungal or oomycete culture and disease assays.
Experience in the use of a plant array lysimeter to conduct drought assays.
Experience with molecular biology, vector cloning and RNA purification.
