**POSITION: FISHERIES INTERIM COORDINATOR**

**HOUR OF WORK: FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (35 HRS/WEEK)**

**REPORTS TO: FISHERIES MANAGER**

**:Under the general direction of the Fisheries Manager, the Interim Coordinator is responsible coordinate and organize events, tasks, work projects and team responsibilities for the Fisheries Department.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Works collaboratively with the Fisheries team in building the fisheries department and creating a nurturing learning environment for member of the team;
- Maintains an open and positive attitude towards Coast Salish Tsawout culture and history;
- Interacts with Nation employees, members, committees and working groups, other First Nation communities, the public, government agencies, other partners and special interest groups;
- Coordinates cultural and traditional community activities including food, social and ceremonial delivery;
- Participates in food fisheries activities including scheduling, harvesting, process and delivery of product to the community;
- Plans, coordinates and assists in facilitating community engagement sessions, and/or participate in meetings as required; Prepares communications for publication in the community newsletter and on community based social media sites;
- Works from, operates and maintains various types of boats, motors, aquatic equipment, and navigation aids and software such as Tide and Current Tables, GIS, GPS, sonar, radar and navigation software and ensures that all TFN Fisheries vessels are equipped with functioning safety equipment;
- Spends a significant amount time working in the field under strenuous conditions during all weather conditions;
- Ensures department equipment is properly used and maintained as per the maintenance and repairs schedule and WorkSafe BC standards;
- Ensures boat crews are aware of and drilled in safety evacuation procedures and with all the safety equipment on all TFN Fisheries vessels;
- Attends relevant training and workshops identified by the Fisheries Manager;
- Monitors areas of responsibility for opportunities for improvement and innovation and works proactively to implement these;
- Attends departmental and staff meetings and events as required;
- Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, and all other policies, bylaws and laws adopted by Council as well as legislated policies;
- Ensures that service quality standards are maintained and consistently delivered in all areas of responsibility;
- Maintains strict confidentiality and exercises sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues;
- Presents a professional, positive and helpful attitude at all times;
- Promotes a safe work place; ensures that all established safety procedures are followed;
- Carries out other duties essential to the position as directed by the Manager.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- 3-5 years experience in Food, Social and Ceremonial fishing, Commercial fisheries, environmental protection, Salmon enhancement
- Experience working with a First Nation organization; and
- An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience;
- Habitat assessment and restoration experience is an asset
- Experience liaising with various regulatory agencies;
- Experience developing a variety of written reports, proposals, presentations and other documentation;
- Experience operating power boats up to 15 tons or 12 meters an asset;
- Must possess or undergo training for the following certificates: Small Vessel Operator Proficiency; Restricted Radio Telephone Operator/VHF; Medical Emergency, Swift Water, and Marine First Aid certificates;
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and reliable vehicle plus a clean driver's abstract and appropriate insurance;
- Clean criminal record check required.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Advanced organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail;
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills including the ability to provide, obtain or follow clear, concise and accurate information orally and in writing (including spelling, grammar, context and structure);
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative and productive working relationships with a variety of individuals to complete work assignments;
- Ability to work independently with limited direction, act on own initiative, set own priorities and meet deadlines;
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to exercise sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues;
- Ability to deal effectively and efficiently with occasionally aggressive or demanding individuals to provide or obtain information to clarify or resolve issues;
- Ability to effectively communicate and respond to routine requests or inquiries from TFN staff, members and stakeholders;
- Strong work ethic including the ability to take initiative; to attend work on a regular and consistent basis, and to demonstrate a collaborative approach to problem s
