Qualifications:
- OCT Teaching Credentials and/or a Communicative Disorders Assistant (C.D.A.’s) designation
- Interest and/or experience in working with children who have not naturally acquired reading and writing skills, some with diagnosed Learning Disabilities
- Strong interpersonal skills; warm, engaging, and patient
- Excellent communication skills
- An eagerness to acquire new teaching skills and approaches
- Observant, analytical, and detail-oriented
- Reliable and committed
**Job Description**:
- Work one-on-one with students (grades SK-8) to improve their skills in reading, writing and spelling using scientific, evidence-based programs proven to be effective for teaching basic literacy skills to children with learning “differences” or “disabilities”.
- Implement lesson plans to fulfil students’ needs and goals.
- Maintain records of tutoring sessions, including skill areas targeted and students’ progress and identify areas of improvement.
- Help set goals collaboratively with Directors.
- Evaluate students' progress and provide positive reinforcement and feedback.
- Discuss lessons and progress of students with parents.
- Use a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, and reinforcing.
- Identify students’ individual learning and behavioural needs and respond to their styles, skills and abilities.
- Establish a friendly, encouraging and welcoming environment for students.
Terms of Employment:
- Part-time (after school and/or Saturday) positions available for the 2023/2024 school year.
- Pay ranges from $27.00 to $40.00 per hour (to be determined based on experience).
- Training will be provided at a rate of $25.00 per hour.
- Ongoing mentoring and collaborative problem-solving also provided.
